Morphine Prince 107,533
"What it has become is not a war on drugs. It has become slavery. Or something crazier," Minaj said. "When I see how many people are in jail, I feel like, 'Wait a minute. Our government is aware of these statistics and thinks it's okay?' The sentences are inhumane." As Minaj told Billboard, Obama's sympathetic view towards prisoners incarcerated for drug charges will stand out the most when she looks back at his presidency, saying it "melted my heart." Minaj is still undecided about which candidate to vote for in 2016, but she did admit she supports Clinton. As for Trump, Minaj called his efforts to become president the "ultimate reality show." "There are points he has made that may not have been so horrible if his approach wasn't so childish," The Pinkprint rapper said. "But in terms of entertainment, I think he's hilarious." Billboard notes that Minaj's comments came before Trump's controversial call to ban all Muslims. Echo 327
I think she's referring to privately owned prisons. They're basically make money off of the imprisonment of others.
Didymus 34,380
I don't see how that comparison makes sense. In my opinion, what's more akin to slavery is the prohibition of drugs that alter consciousness to a remarkable degree. I'm with Graham Hancock on that issue. She's talking about how the U.S. has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world, mostly for non-violent drug offenses, disproportionately of minorities. I think she meant the fact that the ratio of POC imprisoned to white people are bizarre, especially when it comes to drug related crimes... I think that's what she was getting at anyway

DiscoHeaven23 35,007
I think the war on adults molesting children is an even bigger issue than "the war on drugs". I wonder why she's not talking about that.

Oh well that's one of the outcomes of it. We all know that the government created the war on drugs on purpose.

JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I agree with her. It's become a profitable business for police departments, city leaders, private prisons and even Universities. Police departements get bonuses based on the number of arrests based on drugs. A drug possession charge or a drug kingpin gets arrested doesn't matter they get the same amount of money based on quantity. They use fear and power to manipulate people to work for free as drug informants. Some drug informants have died as a result. Some light has been shed on this by Buzzfeed and CBS News If you get caught with drugs GET A LAWYER. Don't take a deal from the cops. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/confidential-informants-60-minutes-lesley-stahl/ http://www.buzzfeed.com/albertsamaha/mississippi-cops-are-using-college-kids-as-drug-informants#.yiQ7vw0Z3n "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." -Martin Luther King Jr.
ThisGuyTony 31,565
Reminds me of a book I read for my class about how the War on Drugs was the "The New Jim Crow" (which is the name of the book if you wanna check it out).

NCgaga 4,330
Or just don't break the law and do drugs. Why are so many of you against self accountability? These people wouldn't be in jail if they didn't buy or sell drugs. Not a hard concept.
