Should the music industry stop hiring people like Rihanna?

Gaga has recently been saying that the music industry should start hiring people that actually have talent and not people that just have good looks. And i have to agree. I mean look at Rihanna for example. She has limited abilities in singing, dancing, and she just doesn't do much. The fact that Sia recently said that she doesn't even show up to songwriting sessions basically says it all. We need more people like Gaga, Bruno Mars, Adele, in order to create amazing music and performances. The Rihanna's, and Katy's, and Selena's, are the reason why the radio and music overall is very repetitive and bland these days.

I really don't mind there being lots of artists, more music to choose from :green: I don't listen to radio, anyway

Also, there are many talented producers and songwriters who don't want to be in the spotlight and have fame ruin their lives, but we can still appreciate their music through artists like Rihanna and the rest of them :derpga:

But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

But you just said music industry, and industry means business, and in business you don't care about talent as long as everything else sells well.

And no, some people don't give a crap about singers being so talented to the point where they're expected to write their own music. There's a place for people like Rihanna and Katy, and a place for people like Gaga and Adele. In fact, there's a place for everyone.

The pop industry could give a damn about true artistry for the most part these days. It's all about the $$$ unfortunately.

The've figured out all they need is a marketable pretty face to sell radio fodder written and produced by a core team (Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Sia,etc.) . It's easier.

Sometimes real gems show up. We should cherish them.

There should be a disclaimer/asterisk next to musicians on itunes/charts that denotes their level of artistic input.

I understand why they do it. But I still think they shouldn't do it. And is not just about singers being able to right their music, is also about the singers actually being TALENTED singers. The Rihanna and Katy, are just very bland singers.

Its not the artist themselves that are to blame its their record labels and the companies.

Also I don't think we can blame Rihanna this time round she barely has had anything released. Its her prerogative if she doesn't want to show up, but I don't want to see the radio filled with just boring sad tracks that encapsulate the vocal but do nothing else either we need the mix so we can appreciate the talent.

It's funny that you said Rihanna, Katy and Selena are the reason radio is so repetitive and bland but to me BBHMM, Roar and Good For You all seem like completely different songs. They are three very different artists...

Rihanna has a fantastic voice and is responsible for some of the best pop songs of the past decade. I don't think it's very fair to use her as an example.

And it's a business. These record executives don't care hugely about talent. Are you young, hot, can you sing a couple of notes in tune, learn basic choreography and let the backing dancers do the rest for you? If so...

And who said all singers that have talent only sing boring sad tracks? What about Gaga and Bruno Mars. Theirs songs are usually anything but boring or sad and yet their voices and uniqueness is obvious.

Do you really think people care about singers being bland or anything? It's all about making a cute, catchy song that people like enough to buy.

Also, what do you mean by talented? You mentioned the radio playing repetitive songs, and you also said that Adele is a talent artist, but you know very well that Adele's songs are all love ballads and slow songs but people still love them, so does that make Adele a bland repetitive artist or what?

BBHMM sounds like every other urban track popular at the moment (it even has very poor lyrics). Roar is the same thing Katy has been doing for years. And i could go on and on with examples.

I disagree.

Whilst they may not fulfil your standards to be an "artist" ... they are great entertainers and that is what the industry needs. Some of the very best writers are awful singers, some of the best singers are awful on stage etc. These guys do what many people can't and that's why they are where they are.

Take X-Factor for an example, some of the best singers fall early because they lack stage presence and that "X-Factor" .... but these ladies don't.

Her voice is not fantastic in my opinion. I have also confused several singers on the radio thinking it was Rihanna. And she is not responsible for anything. Her producers, songwriters, and team are.
