Is Gaga's The Countess a Golden Globe Worthy?

And you sounds like just another one of those people that think crossover actress from singing to acting are never good enough. And only using their established big names to act in movies or TV series. Which is not true.

Cher is testament of that, she won Golden Globes and an Oscar and she is an amazing pop icon.

Gaga had did well with this first venture of acting. And it is awesome she got recognised. Regarding her competition, don't let them make you feel Gaga is not worthy. 

And please, whatever other fanbases told about Gaga are nothing but sour grapes. So take it with your right ear and let it out from your left.

However, I disagree. And I think it's very telling that it's not just the Globes, but also the International Press Academy, which has nominated her. And I think we can expect one or two more. Not saying this to devalue your feelings, but the whole "nominating her to boost ratings" doesn't hold up when numerous groups are also citing her work.

I mean here's my thing, monsters are loyal as hell. Basically it's a sure fire thing that if Gaga is there, a lot of us will watch. It's a rare thing in the industry to have fans as loyal as ours and I think a lot of these different site and channels know that by putting her on her site or on their show a lot of us will go and vote or go and watch.

also if I'm gonna be completely honest thank god for this because we always get to see her and she constantly is exposed to non fans!

What? I may sound like that but that's not why I have the opinion I have. I think there's a difference between doing really well for your first acting gig and being better than all other actresses in that year besides the others that were nominated. Sorry if it came off like I was a bitter non fan or something, I just genuinely believe that if she should win an acting award it should be for when she truly is the best of them all, you know? That's why I said "yet!" In the title of the post

I see what you're saying, and would perhaps be more dubious of the nominations if the Satellite (Press Academy) Awards were being televised, but they're not. They really have nothing to gain by nominating her.

The only thing I can see them gaining is just a general awareness of the awards themselves, you know? Like "oh I know the satellite awards! They nominated Gaga that one year!"

But I really do think she did a really good job this season, I look forward to more acting jobs for her!

Even then, my friend. They've been around for almost 20 years, and have awarded many movie stars and established actors in that time. Throwing Gaga a nomination doesn't really shake the status quo for them.

I too am looking forward to seeing what jobs come next. Her potential as an actress is unlimited.

You take this as bigger deal than it is.

It is just nominations. Nothing warranted she will win that award or that she should win it.

Everyone there have fair chance.

It is just a little something that for Gaga means more than anything.

We saw how she tweeted about it and how joyful she was.

You can feel what you feel but don't overthink about it.

Just let it happen, one less stress in life, you know.

Ok but the committee has a lot to gain by having her appear, more than just simply rewarding her. They know that a pop star with a huge fan base will get more viewers than just another actress from a show.

what I know is you don't need to be a professional to see or acknowledge good acting and moreover you don't need to be a professional to have an opinion. Being a Stan is more than just agreeing to every little thing your fave does so I'm not worried.

This isn't The Teen Choice Awards or the various music awards that give nominations to people who will show up and who will draw attention to their show. The Golden Globes has a reputation to uphold. This is a well respected, established ceremony and it is seen as a first impression of what film and tv projects and actors will be vying for awards at the upcoming Oscars and Emmys. 

The film industry, in no way, looks at these awards as a joke or as an attention seeking ceremony for viewer numbers. You are certainly free to have a different opinion than the reputable film professionals, but you are way off on your misguided and incorrect assessment that this ceremony nominates the most popular people for views and attention.

The Golden Globes are notorious for nominating big names to attract ratings and accepting "bribes" (see The Tourist), and while I'm sure the ratings boost was a factor in the nomination it's also not a big or competitive category, and she did have an impressive showcase episode right before the votes went in.

I don't think this AHS role has shown her full potential but I do think the nomination is well deserved. Whether or not she will win, I haven't seen the other nominees' work and hence cannot make a true judgement. If AHS was a normal TV show and not a miniseries I would not agree with her being nominated as there are far better TV actresses than her. 

Her being nominated may be a combination of talent and the obvious viewers boost, but nonetheless Gaga has worked hard and deserves recognition, whether or not its a win.

I mean, her acting is surprisingly good for someone no one has ever seen act before. But I agree, it's not jaw-dropping incredible. Of course, this is her first big time role, and it's just a TV show with many other main characters. She still has a while to go, but she's doing a great job. But like you say, definitely not Golden Globe material.

After reading through several of your posts, I don't think your comments were ill-intentioned. However, you have to understand that beginning with the BTW era, there has been a certain subset of the fanbase who has found something wrong with every single move that Gaga makes and has felt the need to voice their opinions about every single thing they dislike. Needless to say, it gets pretty grating. Therefore, if you voice a dissenting opinion about one of Gaga's accomplishments, there *will* be some backlash.

Overall, I get the gist of what you're saying, and you're entitled to your opinion. I just think you could have worded your original post a bit differently in order to avoid such a negative response.

I'm glad someone else posted this. Several people on this thread seem to think that the Golden Globes are some sinking, irrelevant awards show that needs Gaga to draw ratings. The Golden Globes are actually pretty prestigious and doing fine just on their own -- which is all the more reason to be impressed by Gaga's nomination.

One could argue because of the lack of big stars nominated that having Gaga there helps make up for some of that. But for the most part you're right in what you're saying.

While it is prestigious it isn't like ratings have been on the up. I think one reason some people don't see it as prestigious is because it's not an American based awards how and has more of an international base.

 

at the end of the day, I probably worded some things wrong but thanks to everyone who respectfully made their own points as opposed to trying to "drag" me. Gaga saved my life, and I'm not exaggerating with that.. I just had an opinion and needed to know if I was the only one on here who felt the same way.

Should've quoted someone else, it woulda helped my point. While I know these awards are prestigious that doesn't mean they are squeaky clean.
