Can we stop being pretentious w/ LG5?

I wouldn't consider The Fame generic due to the timeframe it was released. Pretty basic pop structures sure, but the electropop production and lyrics were very different.

That being said, I'm honestly not here for some generic album. Gaga is really the only pop artist I like. This isn't about being pretentious, It's that I look at certain performances of Gaga and I know she is better than the pop constraints she has put herself into.

Is it pretentious that I find Katy Perry's music boring? That I get bored of her singles after a week of rotation? To me that's just taste, I can't help that. Yes I would prefer Gaga go in a more mature direction, ditch the electro-pop sound which she is making "generic" and move onto something that really highlights her talents.

I don't want her to make music that is catchy for a week and then unbearable to listen to. I want her to make music that I can listen to over and over. If that results in singles that don't smash every Katy Perry song on the radio and doesn't obliterate the competition then I really don't care.


Gaga has mass taste, I don't mean that in a bad way it's good. I'm sure she is capable of creating something that's interesting and different that still appeals to enough people to ensure a successful album and a WW tour. After all the work she has done winning over another audience with C2C, making some sort of "basic" album aimed at teenagers is the complete opposite direction she should go in and I don't think it's a direction she is interested in going in either.

I prefer that attitude, no need to go the root of the younger pop girls. I want more mature content from her now and it seems like she is ready to deliver.

All I want is for Gaga to write the music she wants to write. It's a pet peeve of mine when other people, who don't understand art whatsoever, want to dictate what they want to hear from an artist. They're called artists for a reason: they want to make their art. Personally, I believe art—in any form—should first be appreciated by its creator, then if necessary, by the general public, if Gaga doesn't like the music then she's not going to give it to the general public.

I just want her to be "free" and not worry about what the general public will think, all I want is for her to be her true, authentic self.

Omfg the GP is so stupid, and everytime you encourage them to google ****, they never do. They thought Applause was about getting attention, "gimme the thing that I love." Anyway, that's one out of many e.g., I barely even knew where to start. Gaga used so many examples during her interviews, I could understand how people got lost. The only reason it seems basic to you is that you understood it, aka why you're here on this site still stanning rn.

The Fame is an album made by a budding pop artist that had a knack for writing catchy and semi-relatable songs.

The Fame Monster was made by that artist after she hit the worldwide scene and saw how scary it can all be.

Born This Way is an album that has to do with society and how we fit in or don't fit in. It's acceptance and tolerance with a dash of pride.

ARTPOP...it's different...it's personal. It's born out of some of the most painful, confusing, and unfair experiences of her life. Every song has to do with how you feel not how others feel about you. It's depressing, exhilarating, uplifting, even a bit scary and just helps you to cope with...anything. It still remains the only album I can play from front to back and still be moved two years later, never tiring of it.

Call me pretentious if you'd like, I just think it'd be a shame if Gaga did a 180 and just wrote catchy hooks with fun beats like The Fame has instead of moving forward. It's just my opinion that I want more like Dope, Swine, Hair, Marry the Night, etc instead of Just Dance's and Bad Romance's. It's not like I'd be mad, exactly. I'd still buy the album, sing every word, go to the tour, but I'll definitely be looking forward to the album after if that's the case. Thankfully, I don't think we have to worry about that. She can't look at that sunset every night and not write artsy fartsy music

But Gaga listing pretty much random references and talking about recognition and fame is not complex or clever. I think people here mistake Gaga sloppily throwing everything but the kitchen sink into a song, or an outfit or her hair as clever when in reality, it's just clumsy. That's the difference between Bad Romance's and Applause's lyrics, smart references and writing. We can rag on about how people supposedly don't "get it" but there's simply very little to get, and even if someone doesn't "get it" ... They're not missing out on anything but a below average pop album.

I could write pages on everything "wrong" with ARTPOP when you compare it to everything else she's released but I won't

I just want Gaga to continue pushing herself lyrically and musically, and putting as much of herself as possible into her music.  If thats "pretentious" than so be it.
