DiscoHeaven23 35,007
9 years ago today Gwen Stefani's second album The Sweet Escape was released in the US. While the album didn't reach the success of her previous album Love.Angel.Music.Baby, it was an album that remained true to what sets Gwen apart from other artists. Many critics claimed that the album was a knock off version of her previous album. One of the biggest issues critics took with the album was its excessive rapping by Gwen. However, I believe these critics wanted to fit Gwen in a box where other pop divas were, but Gwen didn't belong there, she was in her own lane. The album spawned four singles in the US "Wind It Up", "The Sweet Escape", "4 in The Morning", and "Now That You Got It". "Early Winter" was released in Europe as a fifth single. The album peaked at #3 and was the 15th best selling album of 2007. The album has sold upwards of 1.7 million copies in the US. "Wind It Up" Hot 100: #6 Mainstream Top 40: #18 Year-End Hot 100 (2007): #83 "The Sweet Escape" Hot 100: #2 Mainstream Top 40: #2 Year-End Hot 100 (2007): #3 "4 In The Morning" Hot 100: #54 Mainstream Top 40: #16 "Now That You Got It" "Early Winter"

Probglum 824
Damn, that's crazy. These past days, I've actually been on a Gwen binge, listening to her old material over and over again, so it's kind of a coincidence that its TSE's anniversary. When I was a little boy, I STANNED HARD for Hollaback Girl and Rich Girl, and now that I'm older, I can appreciate her work even more, which I love. The Sweet Escape has some cute tracks, but IMO, it has NOTHING on L.A.M.B. My name is yours! What's Probglum?
skaxboy 4,404
9 years?!?! Oh god. I remember buying this album and opening it up and there being a flier or her tour dates. Some of the worst choices for singles ever tbh. 4 in the morning should not have been the follow up to the iconic Sweet Escape, it should have been Yummy. I know Yummy would have been a huge hit. NTYGI was not single worthy, but the reggae version is great. I love Early Winter but it went absolutely nowhere. Im really hoping we get nothing but bops for GS3. And more Harajuku Girls, that what made the LAMB era so iconic.
