He hasn't been to trial, therefore he has not been proven guilty. Bail is set depending on the evidence, the severity of the crime and the chance of being a flight risk. Sometimes there is no bail available or it is so high that people can't pay it or they put the suspect under house arrest. That's what he is right now....a suspect. He is innocent until proven guilty.

So theoretically, if the police caught this man red-handed in the act of raping a child, he still could be released on bail just because the judge hasn't confirmed he did it yet? Curious to see how this will develop.. learned something today, I guess.

You are right. You have to have sufficient evidence to mount a case against him in a court of law. You can't just accuse people of something like this and stick them in jail until their case begins without any proof. The proof has to be there in the beginning and then a jury decides if it's enough to be declared guilty. The guilt has to be proven without doubt. If there is any doubt the verdict should be not guilty. If the police caught him in the act, there is a strong possibility that bail would be too high to pay, not available at all or that he would be on house arrest until the trial. Almost everyone is released on bail for state crimes. And just because his sister is famous doesn't mean he has less rights. Also they usually only deny bail for individuals they are afraid of skipping town, which he is not likely to do considering it's now a high profile case. But I hope you're right about the source being unreliable/false for the sake of the alleged kid's safety and health, that's just awful

You can make up any charge and tell the cops and they'll arrest whoever you said did it. Really, the U.S. legal system is "guilty unless proven innocent". They'll hold you until trial and if you're proven innocent I believe you can counter sue for false imprisonment. Then half the time they're still seen as guilty in the eyes of the public and media. Idk, the U.S. is ridiculously litigious. What else could you expect from a country that gives people life in prison for pot possession but lets murderers walk free because gloves don't fit or "it was a rotting pizza in my trunk, not my daughter!". OT: This is trending on fb now. As much as I dislike Nicki, I hope this isn't twisted to hurt her image too. It's not her fault but you know how people are. I mean, I can't speak to this case (I haven't looked into it) but I can to one case that I know almost every detail to Child molesters, after being convicted, get an average bond of $250,000 - $500,000. That's after being convicted and sentenced. Then MJ was accused in 2003 and they set his bail at $3,000,000. That was before he had ever went to trial and it was just the kid's mom's word against Michael's. Everything's always trumped up and blow out of proportion when it comes to celebs. I imagine it'd be the same with their relatives which is really sad.

DiscoHeaven23 35,007
According to multiple outlets, Nicki Minaj's 37 year-old brother was arrested on charges of raping a girl under the age of 13. Nicki Minaj posted his bail of $100,000. You can read USA Today's story below. This is very disturbing. MINEOLA, N.Y. — Nicki Minaj's older brother has been accused of raping a child younger than 13 several times between April and November. Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned Thursday in a Long Island hospital on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual conduct against a child, a Nassau County court official said. He was arrested on Tuesday but suffered an unknown medical condition that required him to be arraigned two days later at Nassau University Medical Center. Citing court documents, the New York Post reports that Nicki paid for Jelani's $100,000 bail on Friday, using two of her houses as collateral. Investigators wrote in court documents that the victim was younger than 13 and that Maraj raped the child several times. Some details in the court documents were blacked-out by a judge. A spokesman for the district attorney's office declined to comment on the allegations.
