I get what you're trying to say.

It's just that we can't expect people to not focus on what their familiar with. Westerners will feel for Paris more than Beirut, for better or worse. We can encourage people to broaden their horizons by discussing it, but not by being... abrasive.

Yeah.. @AlexanderLevi2 already made me suddenly aware of that very simple truth.

Definitely handled it the wrong way, almost embodying exactly what I was criticizing :rip: But just like Gaga's tweet, it does come from a good place. Glad some people could recognize that even though they corrected me all the same, I appreciate it ;)

So embarrassing at the monsters always jumping to defend Gaga no matter what :rip:

Gaga put herself on this podium not us, I wouldn't expect it from Beyonce or Katy but Gaga's the one who is a self-proclaimed social activist, is it so wrong to hold her up to that standard.

I'm sorry but she is one of the most powerful women in the world, she should start wearing that title better if she's going to choose to comment on certain things and not others :rip:

Actually this is very true, that's not even an angle I thought about.

In the end it's not like she's really listening to us, so why do people care so much that we have an opinion on certain things she says.

I've even had a few quirks about how MIA she's been about gay rights over the past few years. Not that I hold it against her, but she's the one who walked in and wanted to be our spokesperson. Why has she been so passionate other years and not some? Makes me feel like she wears things as trends sometimes or when it suits her.

Just My Opinion though

Tired of these celebrities pretending to be spokespersons for political events when they systematically ignore 99% of it. It's a trend for them. It's despicable.

I'm tired of your negativity :neyde:

You're either committed to a cause or you're not, she shouldn't be so wishy-washy on things she chooses to voice an opinion on.

Yeah, I definitely agree with this. It's especially funny when people say: "She can say whatever she wants!" or "You can complain all you want, but she'll just continue to do her thing!" Like.. yeah, duh, I really don't expect her to listen to me of all people. The added comedy is that apparently she can say whatever she wants, but not me even though I'm on a ****ing forum and this place is literally made for me to post my opinions.

But still. Could've expressed my opinion better.

It's only negative from the way you look at it. Like I said in this thread: she has a massive platform and a simple tweet can influence millions of lives. She has power and I acknowledge that. I just think she can do more to reach her own goals. That's not really negative.

That's ridiculous. I live next to France for god's sakes. That is not a natural stance to take. And I'm not just talking about this, she's also one of the celebrities that chooses to refrain from making statements about other important political issues, including the Israel/Palestine conflict which was in full rage when she performed there, while other performers cancelled their shows to show support of the message she's pretending to promote now.

It's that kind of selectivity that I can't help but be annoyed by.

If she didn't perform in Israel, she would have lost so much respect to be honest. Also I don't get how is that relevant now.

According to that logic she shouldn't perform in any country :rip:

Why is that exactly?

Well, don't you think there's a difference between performing in a country that has broken international law, to the detriment of a massive group of people, for decades and performing in a country that is undeniably corrupt but is at least not blatantly involved in systematic illegality?

I think she would gain more respect. She was mocked for it on social media, people comparing Gaza woman in blood with Gaga in fake blood. The blood of over 2200 people didn't even dry yet and everyone was just worrying for her safety.

She performed in the US, in Russia. Both countries who are known for not the best rights.

But what exactly have Israeli fans to do with?

That's true.

But the difference is that in both those places, she opposed the status quo multiple times, vocally and explicitly. She even entered the popular anti-Putin current on Twitter at one point, explicitly condemning him. In Israel she didn't say a word. She's not a heartless c-nt for that, but it's just one example of her political selectivity that deserves a comment imo.
