True I think she has talent and creativity even though not professionally trained in singing if I remember correctly also I think it's because she has such strong opinion and she doesn't chew her words so she can come out as aggressive. Also i remember an interview regarding her album MAYA and the interviewer basically wondering why she didn't become more pop musically and she said because I am growing but in my own way. Like she doesn't see the point to evolve in what people wants you to be so she does have integrity but the fact that she was super poor and is now quite rich and have always been in circle like fashion and rap always confuse the hell out of people... Also she can be childish like when she leaked the phone number of a journalist who wrote a bad piece about her, sure that woman was a b---h but come on MIA.... anyways it made me laugh ^^

It's funny, because if she was white, she'd be preached like Taylor Swift is for her writing. Though, she doesn't need to be taught singing, she's a rapper that eventually signs and I think that's enough.

If she was white she wouldn't do what she is doing she would be called out for cultural appropriation (actually she was called out for appropriation while looking for a dancer to do a very specific dance. she tracked the guy instead of hiring someone to copy the dance....) also I think that's the mix between sri lanka and british culture that makes her so unique.

Giorno Giovanna

wow this is amazing

But i'm afraid the video+song's message will only reach out to those who already agree and support refugees, while those who don't, probably would not bother to listen to this song. I might be wrong tho.

I remember the fuss over a lyric which was like: I won't surrender like the PLO or something like that :rip:

Yes I remember that, but knowing her father trained with them maybe that's how she got inspired. I think people taker her literally, I mean look at paper planes it's not literal obviously...

It's horribe but not unexpected, I wonder if people actually realize that if Britain had close its borders during the Sri Lanka civil war, MIA would not exist to sing about refugees and an experience she actually went through. People can go on and on about their fear regarding refugees but if they could take two minutes to think of the actual human being behind the picture they have in their mind it would be nice... but who knows maybe karma will get back to us and we will be in a similar position one day!
