FRANK1991 3,318
I understand what you are saying. It might also be due to the studio versions because she sings very well live. Someone like you sounds way better live than the studio version. Upon first listen 25 sounds like she's screaming through the whole album. (But I'm liking Water Under the Bridge and I massively love Hello, the rest I'm still in the process of listening) Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone
Manul 7,377
Well, 21 was a fantastic album. Hello is a perfect song. So, 21's hype and that juggernaut of a lead single effortlessly carried The Mediocre Album aka 25. Edit 21's hype as in people expecting an album of that quality. I should have used "impact". it wasn't laaaahv
DrewStevens 5,249
It's very rude to say that she is lazy and doesn't put effort on her job. Just because she doesn't fit in your narrative of what a good and hard working artist looks like it doesn't mean she is not one. Adele has a nice personality, she is not a scandalous celebrity. She only relies on her talent and her songs are relatable. She is unique among most mainstream artists out there. There's no need fro artists to evolve and reinvent themselves with every era. In the past there were many artists who didn't change at all and didn't have big productions and were still more appreciated than some who did all those gimmicks. I disagree with most of your points but one that bothered me was you saying that there hasn't been artistic growth throughout her career. 19 and 21 are very different albums, the transition was noticeable. Everyone has a different perception but saying that she is lazy and that she basically doesn't deserve this is rude and uncalled for. Many people could say similar things about Gaga. Her voice is not always perfect and she relied on recycled gimmicks many times. Many people could question her fame considering we already had Madonna and Grace Jones. Son of Venus 473
She's relatable. Not only her music but her image. She's just a fun, normal person that records music. Gaga,Bey etc even though imo have a much stronger discography, aren't THAT relatable. They seem like superhumans. Always doing crazy ,over the top things and are involved in multiple projects. In most public events, videos etc they are either eccentric or completely flaw free (according to the modern beauty standards). Perfect body, face , outfits. I guess people just got tired of our beloved popstars not being that authentic. You have to invest more time in order to understand Gaga's or Madonna's work and personality for example , while with Adele you can watch a couple of her videos and interviews and you'll feel like you've known her for years
chiuga 1,952
it's the timbre and tone of her voice and her vocal delivery of emotions (which is something people always overlooked when it comes to singing) that register with people, not her techniques. Being capable of registering a higher or sustaining a longer note does not mean you can touch people's heart more easily.
Killa 15,556
She really captured what the public were yearning for, some nice easy to listen songs, a loving artist that they can feel home with. It's mostly luck. But even if the songs are average and her voice is so as well, her timbre is pretty recognizable. The reality is that it takes zero effort listening to Adele and is quite pleasing. I think that's quite sad, just shows how mindless how society has become. And then she seems even more amazing because when you look at her competition it seems that they all are trying so hard, just makes the other pop stars seem more like a joke. But the reality is that there are tons of singer-songwriters doing that same think, forever under the shadow, performing at little clubs and all that... And some are way better than her and probably even have as great of a personality.
SlaeUrAnus 15,555
I disagree. Adele caters to the public immensely because: 1. Her lyrics are relatable 2. She does not shove pop culture down their throats 3. She does not sell s-x, d--gs and money 4. She is different Adele is a rare find in the music industry. Someone who relies on success because she possesses a powerful voice, nothing else. Furthermore, she is not marketable. Like Taylor, she had a successful era, but was CONSTANTLY shoved down our throats with radio and TV appearances. Adele has her priorities such as her family, again, which the GP admires. It was 21 that established her because it was so different to all the other music that was out there. (Lets face it, Adult Contemporary music was dying) and she single handedly resurrected it, just like what she is doing with the music industry with 25. Bottom line is, she has the artistry to bring back the old types of music and make it mainstream for the GP to listen instead of listening to s-x, d--gs and money that has taken over our charts. In my messy era.

She is a BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology graduate. Do you know who else graduate from that place? Amy Winehouse was one of them. Also, why not? Adele prove that less is more. Not everyone have to be trendy and acting edgy while most of them who doing it, did so because they were asked by their label. Also her lyrics are super relatable, there are no confusing symbols that make people figure out what she was singing about, so people can connect to her much better and she present it with such nice music, nice packaging, who's not in love with that? She is succesful because she made lane for her own, yet her impact felt yards away. Sometimes what you need is a great attitude and great music. Just like what good divas had back in the days. An opinion can't be wrong or right - it is something personal DS

MelbHawker 6,583
I think you've misunderstood what music is. It's sound. It's rhythm. It's evolved to include image because image is what is profitable. It was never about image or growth - it's not every single artist's goal to 'innovate'. Adele is a natural vocalist. She can sing. That's what she does and that's what she'll continue to do. She's managed to outsell every single one of her contemporaries (she's on route to becoming the biggest selling artist of all time) purely by releasing relatable, beautiful, soulful music. I love her (I can't speak for anyone else) because her music speaks to my soul. The artists who sweat to stay thin and place the expectation of innovation on themselves have the desire to take their careers into that direction; it's not a compulsory route for all who can sing. I disagree when you say she screams until she can't scream anymore. Have you actually heard her sing? I'm not sure if you're being serious. lol. Music is an artform in it's own right - Adele's art is stunning, clearly.

That's not how vocal training works. People had long, successful singing careers long before the invention of vocal surgery to fix people's mistakes. Tell that to Julie Andrews. She was expertly trained from the time she was a young girl and she had to have vocal surgery. Tell that to the countless trained vocalists on Broadway and on Opera stages, who end up with vocal nodes...many which require surgery. You are dead wrong about this. Vocal training does not exempt you from vocal problems.
StrawberryBlond 14,102
I completely agree. There are plenty of artists, past and present, who have done or are doing what Adele's doing and they're so much better. Her songs are ok, very good in some cases, but as a whole, all have the same sound and rely on cliche, simple lyrics. Her voice is very strained at times, making it hard to listen to. She puts out the same sounding songs over and over but never gets criticised for it when other artists do. She doesn't evolve. She's all but given up playing instruments live and can't even play guitar for a complete song. She honestly doesn't seem to care about making music frequently or of overcoming her stage fright so she can perform for big crowds who are dying to see her. She doesn't seem grateful for her success, rather takes it all for granted and gave the impression that after 21, she would have happily taken the money and ran. So, I can't understand the adoration of someone who is so cliche and just doesn't seem to care. But as usual, the public always pick the most boring, vague, cliched artists to make famous. Typical. There's constantly this idea put forward of "Adele stands out in a crowd of pop stars vying for attention," "Adele stands out in amongst all this generic music" and so on. But...there's lots of artists doing exactly what she does! But they're not getting noticed! She's the only one! Why her, out of all these other better ones? This is why I don't believe the theory of "Adele made ballads successful again." Um...how many ballads have been successful since she came along, other than hers? Adele has only found success for herself, no one else. If she truly had started a trend, the charts would be full of Adele clones and they're not. The charts are still full of the same old stuff, just with some Adele in there. 5 hours ago, MelbHawker said: I disagree when you say she screams until she can't scream anymore. She has a distinct sound in her voice that sets my eardrums ablaze at times. Similar to when opera singers do those really high notes that only dogs can hear. As good as some of these songs are, there's sounds in them where her voice really gets strained and grating: Chasing Pavements - "SHOULD I give up..." Rolling In The Deep - "We could have have it ALLLLL..." Someone Like You - NEVER mind I'll find..." Hello - "Hello from the OUTSIIIIIDE..." (she sounds a bit off key on this note too) Don't know about everyone else, but it sets me reeling. Surprised it hasn't filtered down to more people (some reviews on US Amazon pick up on it, though). I'm an audio fetishist, so music and sound is my life and I can always detect inaccuracies, bum notes and strains.

No disrespect, but I just don't think she's special enough to be getting the sort of hype and exposure she's getting. People seem to act like she's the only person doing what she's doing, but there was never a deficit of this kind of music. It just so happens that she's the only one who is commercially successful and well-known. If I may say so, Adele's not even the best musician the industry has to offer (in regards to the things she's praised for). Of course, music is subjective. I don't wanna disrespect people who genuinely love Adele's music. Just understand that not everyone is infatuated with her. Since you know so much about music, I would like to ask you to post examples of some of the musicians you're talking about. I want people to understand where we're coming from. I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.
