these "old" listeners wouldn't stream it on spotify anyways

Some maybe. For example my mother has absolutely no clue if she doesn't find a song on YouTube or Spotify. She would then go and buy the album :P

Until artists start negotiating better contracts with their labels, they will continue to get swindled out of their money and their labels will continue to wave streaming around as a red herring as opposed to admitting they have completely unfair divisions of money. Labels make enough money to pay everyone involved fairly; they're just greedy.

So all this stuff about how "musicians deserve to be paid"? That's entirely true. But tell that to the record labels, not Spotify or people who stream. The record labels are the only ones who can ensure that the pie is split up evenly, and right now they're taking the largest slice and telling the artists that the issue is the pie should be bigger (as opposed to having more even-handed slices). Taking your music off Spotify isn't going to do anything in the long run.

Back in the days when pirating was hard and all you had was radio and buying physical copies, musicians still got into debt and musicians still got paid unfairly, so all this stuff about streaming stealing money from poor musicians is just a distraction. It's exactly what the labels want you to think.

First of all, I doubt she has any say in this. Secondly, doesnt her label know how the internet works or what? It's IMPOSSIBLE to prevent illegal downloads. They're only doing harm to the record and Adele herself.

I'm really over this weird streaming vs not steaming war. as a rule I don't buy from artists that are rich as hell, unless it's a concert ticket. I'd rather use that money to buy vinyl/tour merch from smaller artists where the albums and merch are actually how they make money. they don't get huge promotion deals.

if you really believe in your art, you want people to hear it no matter what. that's why smaller bands don't put up this fight.

EXACTLY. the artists doing this in the name of artistic freedom and **** already have made it and are making millions upon millions. the artists they claim to do it for, artists that oddly make much more quality music but are "indie" aren't really in it for global success or to ensure they'll have enough to buy a mansion in malibu, so no one is really getting defended for like people think.

I kind of support this now-a-days.

I don't think albums should be released on Spotify as soon as they are released (just like Netflix).
