DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Britney Spears has been known to have one of the greatest comebacks of all time in late 2008, after being the target of media scrutiny for almost 4 years. While Blackout was a critically amazing album, it didn't perform as well as other Britney albums have, and she was still in the midst of some serious personal issues. But Circus turned everything around for her. Her first single, "Womanizer" went #1 and has since become her 2nd biggest hit. Her album Circus went number 1 and sold 505,000 copies in the first week, an increase from Blackout's 290,000.Her second single "Circus" peaked at #3. Circus has sold over 1.7 million copies in the US. What's interesting about Britney is that when she had her comeback, her singles performed better than any of the ones prior to that album, as a whole. She's earned six Top 10 hits since her comeback (from her own albums), which includes 3 albums and a greatest hits album. She earned five Top 10's from Blackout and earlier. This time frame includes 5 albums and one greatest hits album. Justin Bieber's comeback is turning out to be quite impressive as well. Just like Britney, Justin experienced years of media scrutiny for his behavior and it seemed like nobody would ever like him again. I mean, he got booed twice at award shows. But against the odds, his comeback single "What Do You Mean?" has gone #1 and his second single "Sorry" has gone #2. Justin's new album Purpose is expected to sell between 470,000 and 490,000 copies. With his comeback, Justin has already scored his second and third Top 3 hits. Prior to his comeback (not including "Where Are U Now") Justin had only scored five Top 10 hits from his own albums. Clearly at this rate he might even accomplish that on this album alone.
Mobster 14,604
I thought this would be about Pretty Girls, in which case I was ready to drag Britney... But after reading the OP I have to go with Britney... I mean, her breakdown was all over the news and then bam, she was back.... But I'm only a man and I do what I can. swakby 4,100
Justin. Britney was doing ok in 2009-2011 but now, even if we ignore the poor sales, she's just following trends rather than creating them.
Supersonic 49,376
There were very popular internet bets on when Britney will "finally commit suicide" at the peak of the "I hate Britney" circle jerk. Bieber's meltdown (which he caused all by himself by the way, unlike Britney) is NOWHERE close to the scrutiny and hate Britney faced.
Kermit 15,807
Ugh, I thought you were talking about Justin Timberlake. I don't like Bieber. I love Britney.
