Many religious texts like The Bible, Qur'an, and Hadith explicitly call for the execution of certain individuals. To say religion doesn't tell anyone to kill people is factually incorrect, but it's also a slap in the face to our gay brothers who live in fear of being chucked from roof tops by religious fundamentalist. The Pew Research Center has great polling on Sharia Law and the public support by Muslim's world wild for the practice of executing apostates and adulterers, I'd start by checking that out.
