I think encouraging people to at least acknowledge the fact a genocide happened isn't asking much at all. Sure... you can ask them to change their minds and hope they listen to reason. Placing them in prison for failing to do so is not a logical or reasonable reaction. It's what you'd expect from a fascist government that imprisons those that fail to stand in line with their ideology. Edited just now by LebaneseDude. Their reputations as Holocaust survivors are intact, given that it is historical fact. You don't jail someone for saying that 9/11 didn't happen. You laugh at them. haha, that's true. Me and my jewish friends always make Jew jokes while get allergic when non-Jews do them. Well, it's defamed in that way that the woman didn't said that in private for example. She said those things on public platforms. The thing is that this is getting dangerous because it attract(ed) younger people. She lied in front of a judge... It's like saying a rapist didn't rape someone... normally you'd have a case, to determine whether the person is lying or not... in this case you can skip the legal process, since you know the person is lying... Because hypothetically speaking, if the woman had been right, they would have to free the people in jail / pay money to their families, it is linked to legal cases... History is that which happened in the past. The Paris attacks are an event in human history. Also we're discussing the law itself at this point, not this particular case. Same s-x marriage is not allowed though? Would a Christian who is not in agreement with same s-x marriage be hypothetically arrested? If someone said publicly "Stone the Gays" something would follow, yes. Though this country is based on homophobia. I think in the 90's the anti-gay law was gone. That was a little late

Even if it happened in the past it still effects living generations and it's also proven that it impacts generations to follow psychologically. When someone is spreading propaganda on a mass scale to the masses that encourages discrimination, they should be jailed? I mean if we're playing this game, you also agree that we shouldn't arrest ISIS groomers? I mean they're just stating their opinion multiple times to vulnerable people? They're not doing anything wrong with this ideology?

It is no problem and also no "statutory offense" to say in Germany "I am against gay marriage and would never support it!". But it would be hate speech and therefore a crime, if a person would say "God hates fags and all buggers should be killed and burn in hell, because every gay man is a vile child molester!". Do you now understand the difference between "freedom of opinion" and "hate speech" here in Germany? MAKE LOVE NOT WAR

Also we're discussing the law itself at this point, not this particular case. I was not discussing the law itself, I was just trying to explain how this law is not out of the blue and comparable to some other laws that limit speech. (I started discussing it, when I replied to someone who seemed surprised by the fact that speech can justify you going to jail) The actual law prohibiting "holocaust denial" is simply categorized as an exception, it really has more to do with how sensitive the topic is, that's why it's only illegal in German-speaking countries... As for hate speech in general, it's a broader concept, that I only partially mentioned when I said why Trump would not be in jail. But I'm only a man and I do what I can.
