It was the top of her range but you couldn't tell and it didn't take anything from the performance.

Guess he's just old-fashioned and can't get past a popstar singing Rodgers and Hammerstein, no matter who it is and how beautiful it's done. Some older people are stubborn like uninternationally. For example Tony has said some things about Gagas past work that could be misinterpreted for disrespect towards her music.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

How in the world can he even say whether she was comfortable in the performance or not? Her grasp of the material appeared seamless, she hit all the right notes, it's not as if she flubbed it like Idina Menzel did last year.

I don't care if he's trying to 'cover up' what he said in February. The man is a musical legend and his opinion is valid. Unlike the opinion of someone who produces TV-series.

I really don't get this "oh they're a legend/expert in their field and so therefore they can never be wrong/opinion is always more valid" mentality. These people are perfectly capable of having a wrong opinion and their own biases just like everyone else. This is like when Quentin Tarantino did his best movies of the year list one year and put Drinking Buddies, Kick Ass 2, and The Lone Ranger on it. Does it mean those films are the height of cinema? Not really.

whatever 99.99% of the people loved the performance

I applaud the producer for doing that. In fact every monster here who loved that performance should thank them.

Now that everyone loves Gaga again, you would tell us that. Whatever. :awkney:

Sondheim took a lot of backlash for his original comment, a LOT of backlash.  The world loved Gaga's performance, and he was in a small minority.  Perhaps he is back-peddling a bit, but it could be he didn't mean it exactly the way it sounded.

Something thrilling did come out of this.  The world could easily have used Sondheim's original comments as an excuse to continue dragging Gaga, as Sondheim is a respected voice in the industry.  But the world stood with Gaga.  Stunning.

But yeah he might be right that it's not her usual style, but the fact is she still smashed it, so why didn't he at least commend her for that? He could easily have said "Lady Gaga didn't look entirely comfortable, but she did well", simples. He didn't have to say "travesty"

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

I know Im in a very small minority, but I agree with Sondheim. I did not like The performance at ALL. Sure she sang nice for a pop star, but fake operatic is still far far away from doing it properly. I think Im just very conservative in regards to this type of singing, like sondheim so thats probably The reason I wasnt feeling The performance. And thats The other reason. I didnt feel her connecting with The song, just "getting through it" IMO.it didnt feel effortless.

Its my opinion so please don't attack me. Im glad the world liked it and she definately did well. But just not The way I like to hear it. I am happy to be in aline with this view. :) and Im not saying others cant enjoy it!
