The truth. Either it would've been been a bigger hit than Bad Romance or flopped worse than G.U.Y. 

No one will ever know unfortunately. Though in my opinion with a serious, professional grade music video, and steady promotion, I think it could have been the next Bad Romance.

Yeah but Venus would've been released rather than DWUW where as G.U.Y. was released...what...six months after ARTPOP came out? Or some time close to that?

If it was a planned second single, it might have done good. 

However, the era was starting to disintegrate after the leakage of the album, competition with Katy etc. So I question if it would have resurrected the era.

Anything after DWUW would have flopped hard and it did. G.U.Y arguably one of the best on the album was her worst ever underperformance. The era was dead and buried when Troy left.

Venus would have been a moderate hit, but not a smash, in my opinion.

Venus would have been a hit or miss. BIG hit or miss. I don't think it would went just top 10, I think it either would have went top 5 or peaked even lower than Do What U Want

They should have chosen it over G.U.Y. I mean G.U.Y. slays, but only for us. The geepee doesn't get it. Venus had more appeal. I remember a non-monster classmate of mine singing Take me to your planet

Even though I would like it to be the first single(or Aura). I don't think it would perform very well. 

It is very catchy but not very relatable, so I think it would perform as well as Applause, maybe slightly better or slightly worse... Applause was not relatable for most either but venus's beat sounded better compared applause's beat on radio quality (lower quality than album version). 

First single should be gypsy or do what u want if commercial success was the first priority. And gypsy's video would be a simple but beautiful video of gaga shot all over the world... Do What U Want could just have non-controversial party-ish clip for commercial success. But I honestly don't care about it.

I think with proper promo, a video, and performances, it would have probably peaked somewhere in the top 10.
