Would Beyonce be taken more seriously if she was white?

Maybe. I definitely do think people don't take her serious enough when she voices her opinion on important issues.

I remember when she started voicing her opinion on feminism more and a lot of white feminist were trying to invalid what she said simply because of her s-x appeal, etc.

I'm probably not making much sense now so I'm going to bed, lmao.  :dead:

No.

Beyoncé is working in a musical space that was built from the ground up by black people. One of the few places in our culture where black people are given their equal treatment. Furthermore, beyond the general climate of r&b Beyoncé is easily the most acclaimed female top 40 singer of all time.

It's really just trashy little white twinks on pop forums who arepressed that their favs couldn't ever come close to Beyoncé who give her anything but praise

Beyonce gets more respect and more awards because she's black.

Most of the disrespect pop girls get comes from rockist and indie types, often with s-xist overtones. They can dismiss great performance skills and slag off a girl for all sorts of reasons (she's manufactured, isn't involved enough in songwriting, relies on s-x appeal and costumes and gimmicks).

People who will dismiss white female pop on such grounds often try to be more empathetic when it comes to black musicians.

I've read about white vs black feminist wars over Beyonce at Jezebel. The white feminists, many with indie tastes and s-x-negative attitudes, were treating Beyonce the same as they would a white pop girl, but the black feminists shut them down. Blacks are loyal to their heroes and won't let them be torn down for being s-xual or on the usual white indie hipster grounds.

On the other hand, I've seen blacks on twitter be very nasty about Taylor Swift being a "white feminist."

No she'd be EVEN MORE overrated

This tbh.

At least this way she can be the voice for a minority. If she were white she'd blend in with the likes of Taylor, Katy...other white pop girls that I can't think of :awkney:

She's taken pretty seriously regardless. They don't call her "Queen B" for nothing :fan:

No.

I totally get what you're saying with black artistes not getting credit and I agree, but Beyonce is an awful, awful example to use. She gets loads of credit and more, both deserved and undeserved, so nah.

I've heard that same thing said about male pop artists too. More like pop as an entire genre.

I'm not denying the s-xism aspect at all, 'cause it is there, but most of that issue stems from elitists who think the music they like is the only real music :coffee:

I actually think that many (white) people in the GP don't think of her as a black woman. Either way, she's already being taken waaay too seriously.

You will never please everyone.

Someone like Jazmine Sullivan and other black soul singers, who don't get half the credit someone like Adele gets, would have been a better example.

I think there are a lot of white American who don't like anything "ghetto" or thug" or "black radical" but otherwise aren't bothered about skin color. That's why Motown was such a success in the 60's and MJ and Prince in the 80's. Bey fits that tradition.
