Could LG5 be Gaga's Thriller?

Well, first of all, Thriller as an album wasn't dark at all and the music video for Thriller didn't bring dark themes into the mainstream, it just made artists up their game like Gaga did from 2008 to 2010.

I actually feel like the public will turn on her if she goes back to a TFM-esque darkness 'cause people will (rightly) call her out on repeating some of her old tricks. She had her "Thriller" moment in 2009 with Bad Romance and if she wants to raise the standards of pop music once again, like you said, she'll have to do something the public obviously hasn't seen (for a very long time).

She was closer to being called a legend from 2008 to 2010 than she is now. To be completely honest, I think she lost her chance of solidifying her status then and there and unless she makes a move that draws in the attention of the world again (i.e. stop releasing pop music, which is so far removed from what's seen as influential and "hot" these days), for a different reason than simple shock factor (that trick got old from 2011 onwards), nothing at all will happen, even if her commercial success is raised up a notch.

Just my take on things.

Yeah I trust Gaga.  I'm pretty sure she could settle a new trend / standard in pop music with next album.

Omg sorry if I read angry :ohno:

OT also: Yes, we need a capturing melody. As much as I love ARTPOP, we didn't one on that album.

I have to disagree, I think Aura's chorus and Do What U Want have two of the most capturing melodies Gaga has written

2008? :what: Just Dance didn't take off until January 2009. No one knew about her in 2008. And mess at you not including 2011 when she was still everywhere.

Are you serious? Where were you in 2008?

Just Dance was everywhere in 2008, even Poker Face at the end of the year

Poker Face became #1 in several countries in December 2008 already. People knew about her, drop the attitude. You're clearly U.S. centred and that's fine but don't present it like her U.S. success is all that matters. And I didn't include 2011 because she didn't have any influence on her peers then, even though she might have been everywhere - I thought that was obvious, but it appears you read my post differently than I wanted.

In the US aka the biggest music industry market and allot of other contries, Just Dance took off in Jan 2009. Poker Face was in April 2009. If they were everywhere in 2008 then why did they sell almost all of its worldwide copies in 2009 :trollga:

There are more countries in this world than US.

Maybe she gained the most fans in 2009, but a lot more than "no one" knew who she was already in 2008.

For example here in Sweden Just Dance was played on radio all the time during the summer/fall 2008 and Poker Face took over the radio in December.
