StrawberryBlond 14,341
You'd think being talented and tasteful were the only things that could possibly make you a success or something. If this was all artists needed to be successful, the charts would look very different. It's like the flawed concept of The Voice - thinking that a good voice automatically equals success when in reality, its never been needed for success. Which is maybe why The Voice can't produce any massively successful artists because they may have a good voice but do they have good songs or star quality? Not to mention a good promotional team who can let the world know that their album exists? So, no, you're just imagining that music is being receieved the way you envision it.Music would be criticised so bad if everyone was completely tasteful. Because life isn't all peaches and cream, we're going to need songs for different emotions and situations. Life isn't tasteful, so why should our music be? And if everyone made music like Adele's, we'd complain it was boring and samey, and can't someone sing an uptempo song about partying? And about the talent thing, she has it, but it's not the biggest talent. Adele really came along at the right time. She was an antidote to all the generic dance pop that was everywhere in 2011. So, the whole situation made her look more talented than she actually was. And again, when she came back with her new song, most artists still aren't relying on amazing vocals, so once again, she looked more talented than she was. Back in the 90's, this style was everywhere - she wouldn't have stood out back then. She benefits having her music around in a time when there's no more Mariahs or Whitneys (Ariana is around, but she makes music that some consider to be generic, meaningless pop, so that counts against her). There's many different factors that sell music and talent and tastefulness is definitely not necessary, never has, never will. Katy may not have had Adele's showstopping success, but she still has lots of #1's, she still sells millions of albums, her tours sell well. So, doesn't that contradict everything the writer says about Adele's style of music being the only stuff that sells?
Kacey Elizabeth 900
They are both cut from the same cloth, although Taylor is marginally more talented. NO Your Candy Perfume Girl

Mister Gaga 22,360
Katy doesn't sell s-x, but whatever...i guess the backlash is real. If the key to succes is a rare combination of both talent and taste, why the media choose Katy instead of Gaga back in 2013? The article is very subjective, it's the author's opinion, not what really happens.
