FGGrayson 9,670
I mean, I always thought it was obvious that Gaga as a persona was an act we've seen pictures of her in high school wearing normal trendy teen clothes. However, stefani's always loved to be a performer and I think that's what makes Gaga more authentic than ever-- it's what stefani genuinely enjoys doing, even if she has to put on a 'persona'. She's an entertainer. 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

Tokyo Rose 1,475
She contradicts herself all the time, including the idea of Gaga herself being a "character" or not.I consider Lady Gaga to be the singer Stefani Germanotta, perhaps with blonder hair. She is as much a character as any other celebrity
VTV 12,842
if one is a fan since tf, he/she already know that it is implied. but btw fans cant tell the difference due to artist com/perplexity she's facing during those times. she got lost into her own circle. now that she's back on tracks, i think we all know that "Lady Gaga" is now her life. Tokyo Rose 1,475
Here for instance, she very clearly says says Gaga is not a character
Bad Bromance 5,809
I really don't get some of your comments.Yes, she created a larger-than-life stage character that helped her feel strong and brave. But it doesn't mean it was not genuine: Stefani has always been part of Gaga, she's her creator AND her vehicle, you cannot just split them into two separate entities. She's always been a "hybrid".There's no "contradiction" to what she said before, she hasn't "killed Lady Gaga" at all. She just shares more personal information about herself, her evolution, and she keeps growing as Lady Gaga and as Stefani.Stop the pointless drama, sistrens! This right here!!! Why do we drive ourselves crazy with unnecessary drama, people? Stefani Germanotta and Lady Gaga are the same person! I don't understand why this concept is so difficult for people to understand. End of rant. I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.
Tycho 3,694
I remember in old interviews she would profusely push the fact that Gaga and Stefani were the same. It wasn't until the ARTPOP era that we saw a break in character. I remember in an interview which I assume to be the SXSW keynote (possibly Howard Stern (maybe both)) she dropped the facade and started addressing it as if they were separate, mentioning the Gaga character coping method. She probably pushed the character of Gaga in the beginning of her career to be happy to be happily ignorant to her past problems and remain busy, which worked for her for a while. She was a powerhouse on steroids basically and ruled the world but it crept up on her eventually. She started to feel the pressure of being a popstar which is why she relied so much on getting high and then the hip injury happened. I think that mixed with ARTPOP's poor reception made her really reflect on her past and herself
AlphaMonster 1,806
When and where has she gone on to confirm it ? Plus I watched the video, where does she exactly refers to "Gaga" as a character, I couldn't catch it...
Alien Tulip 12,428
Gaga's career is a da vinci code we have to decipher . She's weird I mean I remember when she reflected on born this way and it's era in 2013 and she kept throwing darts at the album when she said she reviewed it with her friends and they laughed how "messed up it was" and then she laughed it off and said "but I appreciate it" because she knows some fans will question if shes ever fully satisfied with her work when it's published for the whole world to see. XoXoJoanneGaga 629
Yesssss EXACTLY! Perfectly put. I saw this transition during The Fame Monster and especially during Born This Way and, to be honest, it freaked me out 'cause I felt that her artistic message was basically falling apart and therefore looking.. well, unworthy of investigating. She went from living social commentary to the great singer who loves her fans so much and I was disappointed that she seemed to actively support this transition. I understand it better now, but yeah, I agree that the artistic result of her trying to do both (well, if I'm honest, she gave up trying in 2011 and only picked it back up very sporadically until the end of 2012) was just unconvincing and unsatisfying. I definitely think she'll settle for the relatable demeanor. It fits in perfectly with her wanting to be an actress. Just to repeat myself for others: I don't think that's a bad thing, but as a fan who indeed appreciated The Fame as an artistic explosion of promising magnitude I do think it should be obvious why I'm reluctant to cheer about it. Oh yeah she'll definitely keep up the relatable demeanor, I'm just wondering how her pop career is going to look from here on out if she's no longer interested in playing the Lady Gaga character, and if she can transition into being a more normal pop singer with a stripped back image, singing ballads and more relatable dance songs. I mean I'm sure she can do it, but I'm not sure it would be all that interesting, unless she comes back with some incredibly fresh, undeniable singles and some brilliant videos, and collaborates with the most professional producers and directors that she can. But I think it's safe to say that her career won't be very conceptual or meta from here on out.
DietCoke 386
I think some people are over a--lyzing. Gaga was made by Stefani. Gaga is part of Stefani. Gaga and Stefani are the same person, same emotions, same personality. Does that change that Gaga was made by Stefani? No. Are Gaga and Stefani still just one person? Yes. DietCoke 386
I don't like how she approaches her new eras, always diminishing her previous success... She knows she can take us for granted and tries reaching for new fans... It's very disappointing realizing where her real intentions lie... but anyways, as always, I'll keep on stanning I don't think she means it as a personal attack on the fan base. This comparison is dumb but it's the only one I can think of: Let's say you post a selfie and it gets 5 likes. You end up not liking it anymore so you delete it. Is that you telling the 5 people that liked it their opinion isn't valid or is wrong? No, it just means you yourself have an issue with your selfie. (I don't know if I'm making sense tbh)

Guest
Haven't you seen the countless interviews where she, almost to the point of exasperation, stresses that there is absolutely no difference between Lady Gaga and her true identity? That this isn't an act? That she doesn't become someone else as soon as she leaves the cameras behind? That she doesn't dress in other outfits when the doors are closed? For years, she tried to remove the idea that Lady Gaga was a persona (which in itself is already quite ironic, since Benji is correct in reminding us that her stance on this particular issue was always a bit dubious) exactly because she thought that to assume it was, was an attack on her artistic integrity. Which makes her admittance that Lady Gaga was a persona all the more confusing and revealing. What she meant by saying she wasn't a persona was that she wasn't fake or putting in an act for money. Everything we see comes from her head, not her manager telling her to be weird. That's what she meant. She meant that she is one with Gaga as a hybrid. She is her imagination because she's successful enough to be both. She is art and pop. People who hate her think she just rips off her blonde wig and is brunette under and she is told what tto do and say, and that she pretends to be creative, or that she doesn't write her music.when she says "Gaga is not a persona", she is saying "I'm not fake, even when I'm pretending to be an alien escapee hybrid electro-pop singer, it's still me because it's all my idea." Amen Fashion.
Guest
So no, Benji didn't "call", anything. Even her close friends and Monsters (like me) call her Stefani. She knows she's not an alien. But it's all her.
