Is Adele overrated?

First of all, I think that Adele is a very talented singer. But overall I feel like she lacks creativity and her songs are nothing extraordinary. They are just simple pop songs with great vocals; which is nice. But based on the amount of sales she has, and the amount of praise she gets, you would think that she is creating masterpieces or that she is a next level innovative kind of artist. So do you think Adele overrated?

Ofc not.
19 was amazing.
21 was a masterpiece.

We've had artists like Taylor conquer the music industry with generic music for so long, Adele only deserves all this glory.

No.

Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?

Yes she is. I hate she gets so much praise for being simple and gimmickless. As if that makes her any more talented or special then artists like Madonna, Gaga, Britney, etc that use gimmicks and spectacles. This whole "just the artist and their music" thing is overrated in general. **** it.

She has been overrated at times and 21 was also overrated (any album with that success could be called that tho), but overall - no. I mean I used to think she was back in the day, but I've seen the light. Artists need to be more like her and Gaga etc. so yeah.

Isn't Adele more talented than Britney or Madonna musically? :sharon:

Some artists just need their vocals and maybe a piano to do a good love song that people like, and people usually like love ballads, which Adele knows very well. Not everyone needs to put a blue wig or weird outfits to impress the public and make them interested. And the image of the current pop and mainstream music scene isn't that great anymore, so people appreciate Adele looking simple and only doing it with her vocals.

Rat Boy

Her songs are lyrical masterpieces, they are not simple pop songs.

Well, I love Adele, so I'm pretty biased...

I think there's something very special and genial about creating a song that sounds simple and ordinary, but that's also spellbinding and beautiful. I really fell like that about "Rolling in the deep" and "someone like you", for example. Adele has that capacity, just like Jony Mitchell or Tracy Chapman.

Having said that, I don't think "Hello" is quite on the same level and if was anybody else's (even Taylor's), it wouldn't be selling half as much.

But, you know, the fact that it's selling so well is her merit anyway...she's sitting on the glory of her previous work and she knows how to make herself come off as an effortless, cool person. There's this whole persona and public perception about her that's pushing sales...and crafting this persona and perception is part of her work just as much as writing songs...

So kudos to her.

I love her and I much rather see her being the #1 girl than, you know...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
