PaperIz 7,346
For me, music and music stars help me escape real life for just a bit. Not enough to get lost or lose sight of my life goals, but enough to soften the blow of being an adult lol. I think it's good to have a balance. grndmothrmonst 150
I feel the same. It is absurd. Gaga is no different than any other music artist, who at least tries to communicate and stay connected to their fans. I've seen this exact message we see in the OP in other fanbases throughout the years. Music artists have always had those die hard fans. I mean, Elvis has been dead for years and there is still tens of thousands of fans from all over the world that go to Graceland for the anniversary of his death. Gaga is not unique in this situation and her fans aren't some unusual group. The culture of following an artist, at varying levels, has been around before Gaga was even born. Good for fans if they decide to quit using Gaga as their escape from real life, but not all fans are detached from real life or not participating fully in their lives...and it certainly isn't Gaga's fault if any fan makes the choice to ignore certain aspects of their life. If individuals have an average IQ and aren't severely mentally unstable, then they are responsible for how they spend their time and the choices they make, both past and present. Gaga isn't to blame for anyone's poor choices or for choices they regret. Like everything in life, sometimes we use certain distractions or props when we need them, but the choice is always ours. Those distractions can be a fun hobby or they can become an outright addiction. Individuals are responsible for monitoring themselves and pulling back when needed. Post of the century. To blame a pop star or anyone for that matter for poor choices we make is bordering on delusional. And much easier and safer than facing our own demons
Shadow 6,625
It's called growing upYou know, growing up involves being understanding and empathetic with others as well as being independent and thinking for one's own. Everyone here on their high horse can follow their own advice and grow up. Maybe it's not Gaga at all at is the problem. It's really just internet culture and everyone that has to act like a jerk over every damn thing said on a site like this. So I don't think we're actually stuck in "Gaga's world" per se, more like we're forcing ourselves to drudge through a swamp of immaturity to find substance or what we're looking, simply others who relate with us and what we like. The Internet is like road rage, reminders of the woes of humanity that make you sick. However, I'm glad there are plenty of decent folks out there that choose to be lovely, pleasant, and balanced that help me feel like life is worth drudging through. Do your own research. Whispering 18,865
Leave the op and other folks in this thread alone.I think you may have misunderstood the intent of the messages that are saying that people are responsible for their own choices. No one is blaming the OP here, or anyone else who has spoken up saying that they have cut back or changed their way of following an artist over the years. I completely understand the OP and applaud anyone who is changing and growing...whatever that leads you to...or away from! The issue was the notion that it was somehow Gaga's fault. That issue is what comments talking about personal responsibility were addressing.
liz89 373
Ever since AHS, I feel like I can't relate to Gaga that much anymore. The past few weeks I have just been checking here once or twice a day and spending maybe 15 minutes max. Maybe I'm just phasing out of my obsession. Recently I have been thinking a lot about my own career and aspirations. I realized that spending so much time discussing and experiencing her life, isn't going to improve my own life in the long run. Witnessing her life is really just a distraction from me following my own dreams because It feels like I am living through her. Its like she has been giving us this fake sense of fulfillment that feels so real. But it isn't real. One day we are all going to wake up and feel so empty, because we spent so much time idolizing someone else instead of becoming great people like her. It took me awhile to admit to this, but I have been using Gaga as a crutch for the past 5 years. I don't think I have been living my own life to the fullest because I was so stuck inside her world. Can anyone else relate? I can totally understand what you're talking about. But don't you think it's possible to be interested in Gaga's activities, her life etc. and to still live your own life? Because that's what I'm doing. Of course there are times when I'm stuck inside her world (especially when I'm feeling bad in real life) but in general I try to live MY life to the fullest and to achieve my goals. I mean, it's my life and we only live once. I'd say that I feel inspired by her but I don't live through her, I think this would be really unhealthy. Gaga herself is also living her own life and not the life of someone else.
Head Empty 25,068
Let's not forget that in one of the very first interviews she did in her carreer, she said she wanted to bring the "superfan" back. She actively made it a goal to be the kind of artist that people would obsess over. And obviously she was very succesful in doing that. Now, it's the question whether or not she's still actively pursuing that goal, or if it has become a side-product of her artistry. She's definitely aware of it though, because she literally "studied" things like this in 2008-2009. I personally feel exactly the same as the OP. I've been struggling with thoughts like this ever since I've become a fan. There are times where I simply hate being so obsessed, because it's such a prominent "distraction" of real life. There are times in my life when I'm busy enough to not mind Gaga too much, but at other times, like now, I'm kinda stuck behind my laptop and it becomes way to easy to just escape to GGD. It's my own responsibility, but obsessions like this are not quit easily . Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
ashamednudist 164
...But its about more than just the specific time I have spent on Gagadaily or Youtube. Her life has woven its way into every part of my existence. There have definitely been moments in my life when I have thought, "I don't know what i would do without Gaga and this fanbase". In the past I feel like I have given up trying to make my real life a happy place because I felt like I could just escape into Gagaland if I had to. I know I have thought that way many times. Its very strange and Im sure my family would think I am insane if I told them any of this. We can't escape into her world forever. Eventually we all need to come to terms with our own lives and figure out a way to be happy with reality. soo accurate
ARTPOPdidntflop 3,987
You presented a good third alternative. She might know what she's doing and accept how it fits in Interscope's goal etc. but will still try to make positive change happen (and she does try) despite of that. We'll probably never know anyway, but when you see fans who are basically realizing they've missed out on their actual lives, it's just sad that she never really talks about it but seems to glorify and intensify it.Gaga did say that whenever she sees us being bullied online because we're fans of her it makes her angry and sad. She does have some connection to us Gaga x Nicki x Azealia x Ariana x Kesha x Bey
ARTPOPdidntflop 3,987
It's called growing up All of this basically pin this to the OP Seriously people are really over thinking this . She is nothing more than a famous artist, her career thrives on people obsessing over her. She's going to take advantage of that as much as she can. It's not rocket science. For me personally i'm just connected to Gaga because she makes ****ing amazing music and is an amazing performer . That's what makes me a fan and talk about her. What else do you people want, Gaga's not holding you here by a leash. You're not going to stay a teenager/young adult with minimal responsibilities and a lot of time to dedicate to Gaga, it's called being an adult. Gaga is nothing new that hasn't happened before with past fanbases and musicians. Stans eventually GROW. UP. You don't stay a hardcore stan forever, that's kind of obvious. Younger generations will eventually replace us as Gaga stans. Don't turn this into some kind of existential crisis, it's called having more important things to do/responsibilities Gaga x Nicki x Azealia x Ariana x Kesha x Bey

I am an avid fan of her and I follow her moves and endeavors vigorously but I keep track of my own life and I manage to get the best of both worlds. I think I'm quite balanced in this aspect tbh. Sunday 2,177
Tbh, I'm not and I can't even imagine myself in that kind of state. I've been a stan for 4 years but I'm not the type who's ego rely on Gaga's success; It's her up there, not me. I can manage to live my dreams and support her at the same time.
