Fiona Apple 13,006
I agree, those songs listed in no way we're filler songs. Some of the songs that weren't singles were my favorites on the album! I can't imagine thinking that Turning Tables was "filler".Β All of the songs had the same level of production and the same level of lyrical attention. I would much prefer an album that I could listen to from start to finish, where all the songs fit together and flow well. I'm sure some super stans of some artists love to get those 25 song albums, but I've never cared for that. I like to spend time with an album and that takes awhile. 10 to 12 songs is perfect for me!Β I totally agree.Imo it's pointless to have 20,30 or 40 songs with no real substance, mediocre lyrics and generic mediocre melodies. Adele's 11 songs on 21 are enough to keep a person interested in the album for months/years.

A bit oftopic but now that Adele slayage is upon US, Rebel Heart can kiss goodbye to its biggest ww opening for female in 2015 thats for sure. :D :D though not bad that it lasted this long :)

I don't skip any songs because they are all of such high qualityΒ and they all work together. That is why it won AOTY and why word of mouth kept it selling all over the world for years. Also, whoeverΒ decided on the selection of songs and placed them in the order they are in did a perfect job!Β
StrawberryBlond 14,864
Is that a joke?Β Β All of the songs that you mentioned sound flawless and timeless to me lol.. Like I said, what is and isn't filler really can be a matter of opinion. These songs just didn't have the amazing highs of the other ones. He Won't Go and I'll Be Waiting sound so painfully middle of the road it hurts. Her voice majorly jars on these two songs too. I've said right from the beginning that she has poor technique. She sounds like she's bored and falling asleep on a lot of these tracks too, there's no passion in her voice. All of the songs had the same level of production and the same level of lyrical attention. Which is why they all turned out extremely similar. There's cohesion and then there's just re-jigging the same song over and over. Turning Tables is one of her best songs imo... DOn't You Remember is definitely not filler as well... Don't You Remember used to be one of my most favourites but now I look back at it and see it's just ok. But One And Only grew on me to replace it. I totally agree.Imo it's pointless to have 20,30 or 40 songs with no real substance, mediocre lyrics and generic mediocre melodies. Adele's 11 songs on 21 are enough to keep a person interested in the album for months/years. Like I said before, why do long albums automatically equal lack of substance and mediocrity to you? Granted, there's ones that are like this, but there are plenty of exceptions. I certainly couldn't keep interested in those 11 songs for years. As it's quick to listen to the whole album, you can listen to the whole thing over and over many times, meaning you get bored of it quicker. A long album takes time, so you have more opportunities to go back to it and it's too long to hear all at once, so you savour bits of it here and there. This is partly why I don't get bored of Gaga's or Lana's albums fast because not only do they produce material frequently, but they churn out 14 or more tracks per album, all of 4 minutes lengths and thereabouts. Good short albums are only ideal for me if they're by artists that aren't my favourites. The way Adele's going, these 11 tracks are probably going to have to keep you occupied for another 4/5 years. Are you really happy with that? Most artists are cranking out 13/14 track albums every 2 years with no bother at all. And yes, a lot of them have families. So, what's Adele's excuse? If certain artists took a 5 year break between albums, they'd have to come back with a double album consisting of 18 tracks per disc. The Game did that 2 weeks ago and he's been releasing albums every 2 years since 2005.
Riot Poof 2,236
Well, I thought 21 certainly had [filler] (Turning Tables, Don't You Remember, He Won't Go, I'll Be Waiting). It's not the first 11 track album I've seen that had this much filler either. But I understand that the definition of a filler track differs from person to person. But I think those ones can't compare to the likes of Rolling In The Deep, Take It All, One And Only, Lovesong and Someone Like You. omg. I'm not even an Adele stan, but the songs you consider filler are some of the highlights for me.Β Well, one person's fillerΒ is another person's fave, as you've basically mentioned. I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

The Game did that 2 weeks ago and he's been releasing albums every 2 years since 2005. I feel you and don't feel you at the same time. Like... my #1 fave is Tori Amos, and she does long-ass albums all the time. Since I love 99.9% of everything she's done, the length of her albums work in my favor. At the same time, PJ Harvey's White Chalk is barely over 30 minutes, but its short length isn't detrimental to my enjoyment of it because of the quality of the material. I believe that length doesn't matter as long as I enjoy the album. Tho I totally get why you believe Adele should have a longer album. I was certainly grateful when Janet Jackson came back after 7 years with a 17-track album.Β I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand. StrawberryBlond 14,864
omg. I'm not even an Adele stan, but the songs you consider filler are some of the highlights for me.Β Well, one person's fillerΒ is another person's fave, as you've basically mentioned. Tell me about it. There's this one artist (and I use that term loosely considering she gets almost all her material written for her) that I can't stand and I saw a fan talking about their favourite and least favourite songs on her new album. And I'm not kidding you, all their favourites were the ones I hated and all their least favourites were the ones I liked. I answered them by saying: "Well, I guess this is why you're a fan and I'm not!" I think 21 is ok, nearing towards better than average, but not quite. I just don't see why so many people went crazy over it because it's so middle of the road to me, for the most part, and her voice gets to me considerably. If every track was up to the standard that Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You were, I'd get the love, but as it is, they acted like bookends for an ok album, at least to me. I looked up low star reviews on amazon and found a lot of people saying exactly the same thing.

Whispering 18,865
Can't quote right now....but in no way is 21 "rejigging" the same song over and over. Lol, what a joke. The same LEVEL of production, not the same production. The same LEVEL of lyrical content, not the same words and phrases used over and over.Β My statement really wasn't that complex, to have completely misunderstood it and interpreted it in that bizarre way.
