*Looks up Pentatonix* In the name of all that is holy, what has music come to?! This is what the public wants to buy, seriously? This is like Karmin but more of them, and worse. Not another favourite album of the year of mine being narrowly pipped to the post - first Honeymoon, now this. All the best pop albums of the year are being snubbed like crazy in favour of the worst kind of music imaginable. No need to worry, in the long term, though, Demi, a band like them who rely on covers can only last so long. In a few years, everyone will be like "Penta-who?" and go "This is what we made #1? Really?"

Pentatonix never claimed to be a group that does original music. Believe it or not, purely acappela music takes more knowledge and skill than the level used by many of the pop acts (singing songs primarily written by others) out there. These types of groups do their own arrangements, harmonies and use their voices to sound like instruments. They have to be extremely talented and gifted in several areas and capable of singing several genres of music. Obviously, many people do enjoy and appreciate cover songs, as albums with cover songs and singles that are covers have done well for decades and continue to do so....and people attend tours which feature cover songs. Pentatonix had an album last year that sold enough to put them in the top four highest selling albums in the US.

Obviously, you haven't heard of them because you don't live in the US, where they have done very well. Remember, this chart where they are number one is the US chart.

I'm not saying their genre of music is bad, it's the actual songs they're making that's bad. I just judged them based on Can't Sleep Love and I was blown away by how bad it was. Admittedly, Sing was better. Believe it or not, I don't think that bad songs mean the artists are bad. There's some genres out there that aren't for everyone but shouldn't be dismissed as being full of no-talents just because it doesn't appeal to your ears. I don't review the heaviest of heavy metal as it's just too loud and the words are too difficult to decipher but I've never thought that the acts are untalented, just that it doesn't work for me. I avoid it because it's a style that I can't truly understand/appreciate to give it a fair score. But acapella and spoken word, I can definitely get. I've heard beatboxing, I've heard people make their voices like instruments before and it sounds good with the right songs. If all those sounds in their songs are truly coming from their mouths, well, that's talent. But the song quality itself is another matter. I haven't listened to any of Pentatoxic's covers yet but I hope it's a lot better than their original work. Looks like I'll have to add them to my review list seeing as they're apparently a bigger deal than I thought.

Yes, I know it's the US chart. It's just I like to see where the best albums are charting worldwide and it's always an amazing bonus when it goes to #1 in the US because that means it can really get people talking and global attention. I just want to see Demi's album do better than Selena's anyway.
