The next era for the current pop queens will not be good. They better make all their money on tours, perfumes and merchandise because the pop music industry is dead. I think Gaga might debut a little higher because of such a great 2015 ending with AHS but it won't be one million in a week. Katy will need a huge hit to debut big. Rihanna will be DOA. Although Rihanna never debuts with big numbers. I'm not even sure she has ever had a number one album. Riri's albums have all sold well through time and big singles. It seems to me like 80 -120k pure album sales is the new goal for pop queens. 

This depresses me because it makes sense. It will be interesting when Adele releases. The only thing that is keeping this idea at bay is that it was possible with Taylor and still is. Which means there are a lot of people still buying music (which they should). Let's pray for Gaga's infectious hooks

there is some hope though cuz Meghan Trainor and Nickialmost sold 200k in their first week within the last year. So I'm thinking at least in the 200's for Gaga and Katy. (But that's REALLLLLY dependent on their lead singles performance, for both of them).

They both had huge songs with their debuts, but only Meghan has gone platinum. Nicki is still at about 630k+ albums sold and Meghan is alittle higher with about 850k and 150k for her EP. If going platinum once is the standard for huge pop success in the US we have a problem. They are not breaking any records.

Didn't Rebel Heart flop with 116k streaming plus purchased? These new girls are flopping hard. Katy and Gaga must be shaking in their Louboutin's. Music industry and pop are officially over. Thank God Gaga is acting. 

correct me if I'm wrong, but demi and selena aren't new girls? They're disney/nickelodeon stars who decided to put out music.. I've never taken selena, demi or even Miley seriously as musicians (Miley until recently) so these low sales seem normal to me. Idk where there fan base would come from.

I agree, but I was trying not to offend anyone. Still a lot of pop stars started as Disney/Nick stars first. Britney, Christina, Alanis Morissett, JT, Fergie, and even Ryan Gosling and scream queen Jennifer Love Hewitt was a former Disney star. This generations Disney cross over star pales in comparison. Maybe Miley, Ariana and Nick Jonas are the only ones really almost breaking out of their teen star pasts, but still not far enough.

see I knew a lot of them were disney but I had no idea Alanis and fergie and JLH were, but yes I agree. Disney stars have been lackluster to say the least over the past several years, not to say I haven't enjoyed a few of their songs (skyscraper, heart attack, look good for you) but as a whole I never figured them having actual solid fan bases, which is why I'm not surprised numbers are so low for them, unlike gaga or Katy or rihanna who have massive, dedicated fans.

Even Hilary Duff had a bigger following. Lol but there is also Jared Leto and Drake who broke out of their teen star acting pasts. I just think this gen's Disney star is just not interesting enough to break out of their Disney/Nic pasts.
