Tropico 4,145
this article is trash had it been about Gaga the Little Bottoms would be hissing "IIIRRRREEEEELLLEEEEEEVAAAAANNNNTTTTSSHHHTTHHHH"  If it had been Gaga, the article wouldn't make sense tho. Gaga is vocal about lots of things and is unapologetic while doing so. Her third album was full of social justice related issues. I know you were trying to make it seem like there was hypocrisy in the thread but what you're  saying doesn't make sense.  -  This is very harsh. I do agree that Katy plays it too safe and doesn't really take any risks. I also agree that she isn't evolving much (I wouldn't say at all) as an artist. She remains the quintessential bubble gum pop star. But I wouldn't go on to drag her through multiple paragraphs. God damn. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Tropico 4,145
I still don't know why Onika is called a feminist.  - "Katy Perry pushes such avant-garde, high concepts as teenagers, horny; California girls, awesome; aliens, weird; and kissing girls, actually kinda nice." Did they lie? I don't spot any lies. Nicki's feminism is more in the vein of giving women the right and privilege to be as s-xual with their bodies as men. I think while Beyoncé wants women to be recognized in the work place and society for their hard work and strength, and while Lana wants women to have the CHOICE of being submissive and not being forced into it, Nicki wants for women to be s-xually liberated. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

Tropico 4,145
Aren't they s-xually liberated years ago?  Considering the ampumt of backlash a female pop star gets for a nip slip and that Miley was still labeled as nothing but a slut merely 2 years ago, I would say no. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

Yves 1,891
Taylor is a really poor comparison. She's on the same level as Katy.. taylor is below Katy.  Keep telling that to yourselves. Her fashion may almost be the same but her music is always changing and evolving. Mess of an article.  I think you mean "Her fashion is always changing and evolving but her music is almost the same." The music industry, her peers and music consumers disagree with you. Tell them, King.  - The article is quite brutal, I guess. Taylor is not a feminist, I agree with that. But y'all *******s hating on her.

Neptune 156
Katy Perry has recently announced plans to campaign for Hillary Clinton. Given that we're in the midst of one of the most openly feminist eras of the past three decades, this news isn't so hard to parse. After all, outspoken superstars like Beyoncé and Rihanna and Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift dominate our stages and screens, offering their assorted flavors of pop empowerment and complicated personal narratives to the masses. In fact, if aliens were tuning in to Spotify right now, they'd probably get the impression that our world is ruled by unapologetic lady outlaws, aggressive, wriggling seductresses, and brash she-creatures emboldened by their zip-up pleather body armor. Read more: http://nymag.com/thecut/2015/10/what-is-the-point-of-katy-perry-even.html
Head Empty 24,513
Well but I don't think Katy even wants to be much more than just a fun and joyful entertainer, so the article is kinda barking up the wrong tree . Promoting Hilary is something entirely different than being a political, musical activist (or at least not issue-based, like for example Gaga is doing). She just wants to use her platform to put a bigger spotlight on Hilary. Also, I don't think Taylor should be mentioned as a prime example of an activist in pop music. Sure, she does her part, but it's definitely not a defining characteristic of her artistry. Hurem 17,800
Katy Perry is as conflicted and complex as a pumpkin-spice rug-and-room deodorizer. She doesn't have a look. She never changes. The Katy Perry of 2010 is the same as the Katy Perry of 2015. Her hair color is different here and there. That's it. She wears tight, glittery, rainbow-colored dresses and black eyeliner.
