StrawberryBlond 14,580
I'm merely saying that you think you know everything not that you are thinking like a psychologist I don't claim to know everything. It seems to be that when I post an opinion around here, that's always what people think I'm trying to say, but it's really not. I don't see how it's any different from the rest of the outspoken opinions that you see. Well, hey, if that's how you view it that's your right. I feel like she shouldn't have to take into account everyone else's opinions when she's expressing herself. So society thinks this or that is normal? Who cares? She does crazy, silly, wacky, and awkwardly s-xy things for the hell of it. Just for fun and just for expression and that's something I support 100% She is the "Just Dance" artist of our generation. A break from all the meaning and all the heavy sh*t and a reminder to just chill out and let your flag fly But nudity is a difficult area. It can't just be a no holds barred area. Nudity can be seriously offensive in some respects and it's all too frequently defended under the excuse of art when a lot of the time, it's just people trying to make headlines and stir up s**t and art shouldn't be about attention seeking. There's decency laws in the world for the reason - because nudity can be offensive and people's sensitivities should be considered. Maybe some consider it all just be wacky fun and games but a lot of us have issues with nudity being such a free for all. It's not about being a prude, it's linked to things like respect, decency and humanity. Really, I don't think Miley's about chilling out. She's about drawing attention to herself, having people talk about her. Thing is, some of her work is about "meaning and all that heavy s**t," she just chooses to forego all that for the attention seeking songs that'll get her talked about for good or bad, she doesn't care. I think it's sad and she's squandering her talent. She's become all about the antics, not the music.

Im not saying your not entitled to your opinion but I just find it a bit strange... You do know that a huuuge amount of Gaga's work is about other than music aka antics? Also you realise how numerous times Gaga has used nudity pretty much just for The sake of it. And nudity is offensive? I dont know how... We are ALL naked everyday. :) besides shes not forcibg it to anyone, its a live show for those who want to participate. Not forced on everyone like some of Gagas nudity or Madonnas or others. I just find your looong arguments a bit twisted even. Or you are making the most natural thing likr nudity and s-xuality somehow bad or twisted. Something to be ashamed of even. Its very 50's and I find it s bit offensive actually. Furthermore, she IS an adult and can do as an artist whatever within the bouds of law. She is not a rolemodel if she doesnt want to be. She is a rolemodel to s-xual freedom and liveration from the views like yours...

Yes, Gaga is a performance artist as much as she is a musician, so that means she's entitled to use both equally and her performances can enhance her music, although it's good enough on its own too. When Gaga does her performance art, there's messages behind it, it's not about attention seeking. Most importantly, it never takes anything away from the music, at least not for me. Yes, Gaga has used nudity but I'd argue that there's always a reason for it. Gaga is constantly challenging people's idea of beauty and that means that even when she does use nudity, it's not "pretty" nudity. I can't quite explain it, but Gaga is just good at making gross stuff look artistic in a way that no one else can. I mean, if I saw anyone else get puked on, I would be totally turned off but when Gaga did it, it was symbolising something, there was real passion behind it, she would have done this even if cameras weren't on her. With Miley, it seems to be like everything she does is for attention, especially her performances. It never strikes me like she's doing this for artistic merit.Of course there's nothing shameful about nudity in and of itself. But it can be used in ways that is harmful. I especially don't like how women are using it to get ahead but men don't need to. It's an issue with the objectification more than anything. I've not particularly liked it when Gaga's used nudity before either. So often the trend is for women to be undressed and men to remain fully clothed and this constant focus on women removing clothes sends out a horrible message to young women today. That's why we get so many instances of nude pictures being passed around or girls getting coerced into s-x and so on. Because we're fed the message constantly that s-x and nudity is all we're good for and boys won't like us otherwise. It's extremely damaging. It's not helped by artists like Miley who try to define themselves by s-x 24/7. There have been artists before her that did a lot of s-xual things but they showed us other sides too. Miley's too focused on being overtly s-xual for the sake of it and it's sad to watch. And apparently this idea is for a video, not a live performance, meaning it could be uploaded online and little kids could see it (and seeing it on a site that allows nudity at that). Miley is mainstream, so this stuff will be reported on for kids to see and hear. This is why I'm really afraid of raising children in this world - you can only shield them from so much inappropriate content but there's always a way for them to see and hear stuff unsupervised via various forms of technology. Believe me, i'm all for s-xual freedom, but in a way that adheres to decency laws and treats all partcipants with respect. Sex is brilliant, but it can also be extremely damaging if certain factors aren't present.
Iwontell 7,312
Meh, go for it, I say...I don't see why nudity is such a big deal or even reason for controversy anymore... Sex is brilliant, but it can also be extremely damaging if certain factors aren't present. As I said, you are entitled to your view and I respect it. I however disagree on most points. Mostly you justifying Gaga by her musical quality and not using non musical aspects for attention and comparing it to Miley in a very unfounded way. First, Gaga doesnt make anymore artistic music in pure musical stand point than Miley; basica four chord top 40 generic pop music with quite silly lyrics (mostly). Then she elevates her art vy means of outfits, performance etc antics, as you say. Compared to Miley, there is nothing different. One might say that from musical perspective Mileys New album is much more innovative. Sure I consider over ALL Gaga to be superior singer and performed, but her art is not that much superior, its pop music.Secondly, how can you say only Gaga has a point of view or meaning in her art and is there for more artistic? You obviously have no idea of Mileys work as ofcourse she too has meaning and point of view in her art and is hencefore as much an artist as Gaga. Its matter of opinion which you prefer but it doesnt make The other null and void in artistic value. They are infact The same in value. Its BS to say Mileys performance art is not as artistic or with meaning as Gaga's.And I still think you have a very narrow view of s-xuality and nudity. You have good points view of female nudity, patriarchal and one sided, thats exactly what Miley is fighting against. I do NOT really agree with you at ALL. What's so bad in children seeing nudity?? It ALL natural and yet you are making a tabo of it still. But its you right to view it as such., though I think your view is more harmful for children...
