It's shocking to me that now only 100,000 copies can make you #1. It's so sad to me that buying music is a thing of the past. I still go to the store and buy physical copies when a fave of mine releases music.

However, congrats to Janet! She is truly talented and deserved that #1 spot.

Janet becomes just the 3rd act to have a #1 album in each of the last four decades (80's, 90's, 00's, '10s). Barbra Streisand and Bruce Springsteen are the other two acts to do so.

Kylie and Madonna both did it in the UK.

I know I was just thinking the other day how there's no more record stores. I mean there's some vinyl shops and places like amoeba but there's no Virgin or tower records anymore. It's crazy thinking how inaccessible physical music is

Right..it really comes down to Target/Bestbuy (at least in my town). And even then, Bestbuy seems to get a lot more than Target (probably though deals with the record labels). Houston does have some pretty cool record stores downtown, but those are a bit of a drive so I have to settle for these chain stores.

I hope Unbreakable is a major step in undoing the damage Nipplegate did.

Which I don't know why it was that shocking and destructive to her career... Look at Miley now, if that was back then Miley would be burnt at the stake...

I guess 2004 was a different time...

Some people also speculate that misogynoir (misogyny/racism against black women) was at play too.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

The Superbowl audience is broader, more family, more conservative than the MTV Awards audience. Plus her career was trending towards anyway, as it peaked in 80's and early 90's.

It's like the mistake of blaming the Erotica backlash for Madonna's decline in early 90's, when music was trending toward grunge rock, R&B, and rap anyway.
