I agree with a couple of his points. The pacing of the episode was messy, and yeah, I didn't quite care much for death-by-dildo either. I wouldn't say it was garbage though. The first episode just wasn't as promising as the firsts of other seasons.

Gaga fans will love anything she does. Real people have real opinions that aren't quite as biased. I agree with some of it. The show overall was not very good. 

It's good to have an opinion but this review doesn't even make sense and it's obviously biased. 

"I was curious to see Greenfield’s attempt at playing what I assume was meant to be a gay man, because he’s funny and seems like a good guy[...] After that scene, I took to Twitter, as one does, to complain that the scene was basically treated as a joke, because isn’t gay rape so funny." 

That is stupid. Greenfield's character barely said a word and now suddenly he is gay.

How does he know that? Max Greenfield seems to have more scenes after this episode. Just because he has been in more comedy shows it doesn't mean RM had to cast him for a comedic role.

When did he marginalized cross-dressers? Why did he have to get personal about Ryan Murphy's fantasies? Ryan Murphy already said that there's a good reason why they all look alike. 

Real people? What does "real people" mean? Fans are real people too.

This is basically just one long rant. I think he's completely misinterpreting the scene with Max Greenfield...like what even. Also this is terribly written for something posted on Vanity Fair's website, even if it is just a blog and not part of the main editorial.

I haven't seen it yet but I will add that rape scenes are becoming a new trend in media and it isn't healthy. Rape is a tragedy, not something that should be glamorized and used for 'dramatic, gritty plot settings" and such.

 

I'm also worried about what impact this will have on Gaga herself. Sure, she is totally unrelated with said scene but she was part of the episode and well, she just released TIHTY, ffs...

Murder and torture in media, they're both really widespread as it is and there is nothing that can be done about them, sadly. However, if you think that media being in an already bad shape because of murder, torture, s-x, d--gs etc. Is an excuse to make it even worse by also making rape popular, your post doesn't make any sense.

The review is a bit pressed. Most seasons of AHS start with 4 or more different stories that come together as one. Coven did. Also I don't think he is punishing limp wristers, IMO, the rape scene it was more a commentary on s-x while on dope is basically rape because there is no inhibitions. Last nights episode is an introduction to the characters. It was well done. Also the I think Shirley Manson might disagree with his interpretation of trash vs garbage.
