She seemed to be in a trance like state.

I don't want to say stiff, but maybe everything will make more sense once we actually get to know her character.

Her voice sounded perfect though.

Um, what? There's a lot I (and *we*) don't know about her. But in interviews it's been made clear she's been the owner of the Cortez for a very long time.

I'm unsure why you're criticizing my personal opinion, though? "Lets just wait and watch. Im sure she will improve." - that makes you sound like one of the if-you-dare-praise-Gaga-you're-delusional brigade, to be honest. One can enjoy the her performance in the premiere just fine and disagree that she was needs badly to improve.

I'm not discrediting her performance at all. I think she did a good job, and I enjoyed it. I just don't find it reasonable to cover-up the "supposed mix of accents" because she was doing perfectly with her role or her delivery of lines. It's really a reach for me. We may critique and praise her at the same time. One thing is for sure, we don't know anything. I'll just shut up and see if your reason will match the story line that might be the cause for her 1st episode performance.

I loved her acting so far, I think she's been really good. I actually like that she hasn't had too many lines yet because she's been able to portray her character through her body language and actions rather than verbally and I think that's important for a character like that. I honestly don't think the countess needs too many lines, although I am looking forward to hearing her speak more in future episodes.

I think if she continues to impress in this season, I'd love for her to do more acting but perhaps in different types of roles. Whilst I love her so far as the Countess, the character she's playing doesn't seem too dissimilar from how she's acted in some of her music videos (like a murderous amped up version of herself ala paprazzi, telephone, bad romance ect) so it would be cool to see her explore different types of roles.

I think her character is supposed to be a little off, so it's a little.. misleading. We'll have to wait and see, she wasn't a big feature or talker in this episode, at least not in a front-line presence.

I really enjoyed Gaga and her character and the acting, it is pretty much what I expected. This is a cable television series, so it is not supposed to be high theatre and it is great for what the show is and has been since the beginning.

What I really enjoy is that it seemed a lot like a female counterpart to True Blood's Eric Northman, in almost all ways. I am not meaning that this show is copying that one, because I would say that it is not, but it really seemed seamlessly on par with Eric Northman's world and the Vampire Hotel that the characters of True Blood went to in Texas, it was called Hotel Carmilla. Gaga is as believable and cool and s-xy as Eric Northman was, and anyone who watched that show knows that it was more of a fun show and character driven than award winning and a serious contender for acting greats.

This is the best that I can ask for, I am all about a new female Eric Northman, being by way of Lady GAGA. I was all about that character and show. The Hotels seem the same too, almost like a serious dead zoned airport hanger. I feel vertigo as I watch the hall sequences. I love it so far and am impressed and elated to have a new vampire favorite to gush over. I liked all of the other stuff too, but Gaga will be my favorite, just as Eric Northman always was.

Go Gaga... Gagz

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Yeah, I felt that too. They were going for a very surreal, dreamy (or rather nightmarish) atmosphere and she's supposed to be kind of otherworldly and detached (and "off", like you said) which adds to the unsettling feel of the whole hotel. Personally, I think she did brilliantly, can't wait for next week.

Yea, plus I think they want her to seem harmless. Then, she strikes! Her character was really in-line with other performances of vampires/creepy counts.

I feel like it's a bit too soon to really judge until we really know about her character.

Although, I felt sometimes her speaking voice was a bit off (i.e. when she was talking the kids - but as I said before, if that particular tone is consistent throughout the season I will assume it's how they wanted it - almost dreamy like) but overall I was extremely impressed with her acting, actually. She didn't strike me as a singer who was dipping her toe into the acting pond, she strikes me as an actress - you can really see how she put her whole self into it and I'm so so impressed with it. If it's like this the entire season I'd love for her to continue acting in the future.

I'm sure they worked around her acting... she's a little stiff, but that's expected. Her character is excellent for her. It still sounds like Gaga.. kind of, but just more uppity and nefarious, Her accent fluctuates

I love what she did, it was really interesting! Good job, Gags. :flutter:

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

In some scenes, her acting seemed so robotic and stiff to me. I know the character is supposed to be a cold-hearted lady, but she could characterize it better, add a more striking value in it... The most obvious thing I noticed was that her mimics were a little stiff, especially way she moves her mouth, eyes, and eyebrows.

But I liked her acting in the scene that she was taking the boy to the secret room where all other kids were at... She acted with much more character in that scene in my opinion.

But I am not an expert anyways, all I say is just an amateur's comments.
