So is Tony Bennett wannabe jazz singer cause that's what he's been singing his whole career and he's a legend. Jazz world is not the same as Pop world.

And it's quite insulting to call KARAOKE - some of the most challenging vocal performances she had this year, no other pop girl could come close. For the first time, she was praised by everyone for her talent, her vocals. Not shocking tactics or #1s.

I get that you're not a fan of jazz era, but she did get a Grammy for that album and she did have amazing year.

I really did not mean any disrespect, its just that I hate it when American songbook type swing/big band music is called jazz (I know that it is sort of) because I see jazz as in let's say Grammys actual jazz categories, not traditional pop. You know what I mean? Its so hard to explain myself :D For me jazz is more "artistic" and classical in a way and not Bennett/Sinatra etc type "standards" music or traditional pop.

So I'm ssorry, I was out of line calling her karaoke. Ofcourse she sings good, though not "jazz" but lounge music IMO. Much better than pop stars in general obviously, just not jazz as I want it. Its not really Gaga's/Bennett Fault that I don't like their usage of The word "jazz" or that I loath The "genre" :D

I should just shut up now :D This just making it worse.

In short, since I havent payed much attention to this era, I did not realise its succes, hence The surprise. Nothing more :)

For me, that's a bit like an contemporary rock fan saying "real rock" is indie and alternative - not that pop music made by Elvis and The Beatles.

I like old time jazz pop and big band swing more than current jazz. I think the public does too, just like they prefer classic rock to current alt-rock.

i'm sorry, but are you out of your mind? you don't consider sinatra to be a jazz artist?! ARE YOU SANE?! :wtf:

putting quotation marks around words/concepts that are easily and clearly definable is just... stupid and ignorant. :smh:

yes, it's hard to explain yourself when you're talking nonsense. :wtf:

might be :) I am a bit "elitis" or a snob whe n it comes to certain genres, as I am classical myself. It is just my opinion and probably not a very popular one. So I understand perfectly what you mean.

why are you attacking me so rudely?! A term jazz is most definately not that simple to define, not in professional circles at least. Certainly for most GP jazz is a very broad concept, however often inaccurate. Sinatra is technically a big band/swing music artist. Jazz, classical jazz, neo jazz, fusion jazz etc are ALL a lot different. Anyway, its my view and I have a right to have it.

And btw, do yyou remember that c2c won The Grammy in traditional pop category, not jazz...

In her love of jazz and rock, Gaga remain in one way a pop artist, because she loves the classic stuff from the era when jazz and rock were the dominant forms of popular music. (30s-50s jazz and 60s-80s rock).

The challenge is that, while the classic stuff is still most popular with the GP, it isn't the same as what current jazz and rock artists are doing.

Whispering

The swing era (also frequently referred to as the "big band era") was the period of time (around 1935–1946) when big bandswing music was the most popular music in the United States. Though this was its most popular period, the music had actually been around since the late 1920s and early 1930s, being played by bands led by such artists as Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, and  Cab Calloway.

The jazz/blues era brought to swing music Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday, and by 1938 Ella Fitzgerald.

The 1960s brought about an emphasis on vocal jazz and the rebirth of "swing music". The swing music of the 1960s  Like the Swing Era, the vocal jazz/reborn swing music featured many songs of the Great American Songbook. Many artists made their mark with pop standards, particularly vocal jazz and pop singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Dean Martin, Rosemary Cloney, Frankie Laine, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Vic Damone, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, Sammy Davis, Jr., Mel Tormé, Sarah Vaughan, Eydie Gormé, Andy Williams, Nancy Wilson, Jack Jones, Rita Reys, Steve Lawrence and Cleo Laine.

@Snow, call it whatever you want, but the music community places this type of music in the Jazz sphere. The list of highly respected artists above show that some of the all time music legends and vocal greats performed songs from the Great American Songbook. Just because you don't respect the art form, doesn't mean that the majority of those in the music community would agree with you. Go stan your "Jesus likes my *** best" lyrics and thin, weak vocals over heavy backing tracks. The rest of us can enjoy and respect these classic songs and amazing vocalists!

oh I know my music history without your wiki quotes thank you. And why are you so disrespectful towards me?! And why bring up Madonna  when Im speaking about jazz? You are just being rude.

And how does that quote even contrdict anything I said?! It calls it swing music! It's a totally different thing though who sings it; you see, you can make The national anthem jazz as I mean it or swing music like SinatraSinatra. Its a question of arrangement then. C2c that we originally were speaking of, is more swing/big band, like Sinatra. I have said nothing that would imply that I don't consider those mentioned artists/legends good! I don't like The genre.

And I said earlier that yes, swibg music/big band music may be considered jazz in a very broad sence, I just like to be more specific. I never said nor implyed that others cant like or enjoy swing music, ofcourse they can! I just dont personally like it. Thats all. I doesnt warrant you or otherst attack me. Jeez
