Born This Way is the most prominent gay anthem of our generation, no doubt about it. It is also a pretty divisive song in the gay community. When it was released there was a back lash from a lot of gay men who felt they were being pandered to. There are a lot of gay people who feel like Gaga's relationship to the LGBT community is exploitative. There are people who feel as though the gay community should organically adopt anthems and not have them written for us. So, while Born This Way is the definitive gay anthem of "our time" it doesn't come without its baggage.

I think Born This Way is a brave and important pop song, I love it, but at the same time I think I Will Survive is an eternal anthem that will out last anything Gaga has yet to release.
