Alcina Dimitrescu 1,156
Broke racial barriers, one of the most awarded artists, revolutionized music videos with Thriller, every modern mainstream artist sites him as a major influence, and even people who aren't exposed to the usual media/entertainment world know his name.Thriller, 1982: Best selling album in history.Bad, 1986: Second best selling album in history.Dangerous, 1991: Fastest selling album in history (but I think that title has been taken by someone else now)HIStory, 1995: Best selling two-disc album in historyBlood on the Dancefloor, 1997: Best selling remix album in historyThe HIStory World Tour, 1996-1997, is his most widely viewed and attended tour.In 2009 he came back from an almost decade long media black out to sell out 50 stadium shows in mere minutes. He is the definition of longevity and impact. A couple lies and a skin disorder don't change that.I'm sure that Madonna has her own longass list of achievements too. If you disagree with her being more influential that's fine, but she definitely earned her spot there.

I'm not saying she didn't earn her spot in history, I'm just saying she doesn't trump Michael when it comes to being the defining artist of the 1980's You're stinky

A couple lies and a skin disorder don't change that.I totally agree with you on this one. MJ should have been named the artist of the 80s over Madonna. I'm not going to deny the impact Madonna has had on the music industry, unlike other ignorant fans in this fan forum, but she did not impact the 80s as much as MJ did. Period. I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.
