Can Gaga Pull A Terrible Thrills?

Two years after ARTPOP, the promised 'Act II' is confirmed to never be released, at least not as it was created, a sequel for ARTPOP and Lady Gaga's 4th solo album. Now, I was wondering, would Gaga be able to release this album as a gift for the fans, just like Bleachers did last Friday with the release of Terrible Thrills 2.

She could make an unofficial release, ala Boris, so it wouldn't be pictured as an album oficially or sth.

If she does I don't see it coming until after the next album. Gaga is trying to build excitement in the fan base with the teasers, if for example music were to leak or act 2 dropped, that excitement for the next album won't be present anymore

Well, first off: it's Gaga's fifth album and ARTPOP Act 2 never coming was confirmed in early 2014, so that's quite fast after ARTPOP's release, definitely not two years.

I mean, she definitely could, since she has confirmed it's literally finished, but she just doesn't want the music industry system to ruin it. So in fact I don't see why she just doesn't release it for free. It's a little frustrating, especially since in the same interview she said that she has "many" finished volumes of music we're never gonna hear for no good reason.

I agree but I also read somewhere that troy has rights to act 2 songs so I'm sure she wanted to release those songs but wanted to avoid a lawsuit.

Hmm. Not sure if that's true because in the Austin interview she definitely implied that ARTPOP Act II was one of the volumes she didn't release for personal reasons.

But then again, it does make sense the way you put it as well. I just don't know, during the entire ARTPOP era she made such weird contradictory claims about everything that was supposed to come that I'm not sure about anything anymore :air:

Yeah I remember she also said that at the Keynote interview as well, sometimes the stuff she says doesn't add up and I kinda question when she's telling the truth or not but that doesn't make me dislike her any less, it just means I'm skeptical like the time she lied about wearing a gothic car wash dress with gray tips for prom :air:

True, I think she is sort of playing the game though. She was assertive when she leaked Aura because her label didn't want it on the album and she gave us Brooklyn Nights but to leak an entire album would be pushing it with her label. They spent money for studio time and they partly own the music.

She treats her label well and they will treat her well, allowing her more freedom and not ruining her campaigns. You only need to look at Mariah Carey if you want to see how a soured relationship with your record label can almost destroy your career.

I like to imagine she plays the game in order to fund her album campaign but when she fulfills her contract with Interscope she will leak Act 2 and work on less mainstream music. That's just a nice delusion I like to live in though tbh.

If she could and wanted, yes.

Not sure what the (legal) situation about ACT II is though. Does Troy still have right to it (like with the ARTPOP app), does Interscope avoid mentioning it, or is it just up to Gaga (she didn't like the execution of ACT I and wants to avoid it completely).

I would LOVE to hear it though

I like dancin', and ponies....

I'd of course love to hear it but I don't want Act II to get leaked. I think if she had put so much time and effort into the album, and to release it without promotion, without a tour, without music videos, would put that album in vain. I love the ARTPOP we have and I think it's such a beautiful and enriching album I think all the promotion it received was necessary and this equal treatment should be given to Act II as well. Promotion is a means to enhance your full vision and experience on something so no, I do not want to hear Act II without accompanying visuals.

Well, Troy doesn't have any rights to any of her music. Her publisher probably owns part of the actual song copyright, meaning the melody, music and lyrics, while her label probably owns the master recordings of those songs, so if there's anyone stopping her from releasing any of that music, it would be the label, not the manager. Her manager isn't her boss per se, it's a symbiotic relationship. He doesn't own any of her publishing or copyrights, but he gets a certain percentage of her gross income.

Troy probably still gets paid, though, even for work she put out even after they split, if they signed a sunset clause contract, which is really common. And to be honest, it's only fair.

The way ARTPOP got torn apart by this fanbase especially on here should speak volumes on why Gaga doesn't want to release her full catalogue to us :rip:
I mean Gaga made it clear that all of the song of ARTPOP are extremely close to her heart and a vast majority on here agrees upon that they think ARTPOP is Gaga's worst album, has horrible lyrics, sounds dated, was badly produced etc. If I was her I would have actually quit the music industry for good if a very vocal part of my fanbase was so ruthless and disrespectful for me. :rip:
