only the new wave is not "projected" by the German government. it's a decision that had to be made but there's never been as many and there's no outlook for them to stop coming. don't pretend like history has proven this move 100% safe when this has never happened before.

But history have shown what happened if refugees don't get accepted.

never said they shouldn't be.

I was originally simply rooting for Merkel/Europe to actually make something more of this crisis than play the saviour machine, because the Arab world is what needs saving first and foremost, not just those who came to knock on doors.

Describe to me what Islam is, independent of what Muslims made of it (and I do mean different versions, not just one thing) throughout the centuries.

There is no such thing, just like there's no "Christianity" or "Judaism". Those words are meaningless attempts to group historical events and groups of people together that are way too different to be called the same.

Blaming things on an imaginary enemy like "Islam" or "religion" is just an evasion of referring to the complexity of a problem to me.

Islam is not imaginary, in my opinion.

According to Muslims:

Islam is the religion of Allah. Christianity and Judaism were His religion before Islam.

Islam is described in Quran as Allah's only religion.

But when it's interpreted in many different ways what is the true Islam then? Isn't the idea of a true Islam the cause of Islamic fundamentalism?

Not everything is interpreted in many ways. Halal or haram is mostly agreed upon, except for small matters.

Most of Sharia laws are written in a direct way in Quran. Crucifixion, lashing and amputation are all in Quran and agreed upon by Muslim scholars.

But Islamic scholars disagree about how the Quran has to be interpreted in modern times: does it still count or should it be read and interpreted in context? If you would adapt the Quranic message, filtering out the elements that were simply part of Muhammad's time (that therefore don't form a part of his Islamic message), you would get a whole other core.

Never mind the new wave of Islamic philosophers, incl. feminist ones. You can't ignore all those developments as some kind of marginalized Islam that doesn't really count. That's projecting your own subjective view of Islam, even as an outsider (if you were not a Muslim), on history and deforming it. Islam was never static and its developments just don't allow us to talk about an "Islam" without referring to very specific doctrines and beliefs.

If we don't do that, every time we mention something related to it, we'll simply mislead everyone who listens, which can lead to disastrous results.

Technically, you can't support gay rights or gender equality if you are a Muslim. It doesn't make sense to me.

Quran clearly states that wives are inferior to their husbands. Two women's testimonies are equivalent to a man's. Women are supposed to cover their entire bodies but men should only cover their navels and knees, the rest is for some reason okay to be shown.

A woman is not allowed to refuse having s-x with her husband. Whenever he wants to have s-x, she should obey, unless she was having her cycle. If she says no, he has the right to abandon her in bed and beat her, not very hard though.

That's a basic woman right in my opinion. But Islam is okay with a husband raping his wife.

Therefore, Gender equality has no place in Islam. Believing in it and in Islam is a major contradiction.

Well, conversation clearly is impossible here. But dismissing mystical and modern interpretations of the Quran, which you clearly don't even have knowledge of, makes you more akin to a fundamentalist than a modern Islamic historian, I hope you know that :air:

Honey please. I read about the ones who claim that Quran isn't against gay activities and they sound totally meh to me.

Changing religion isn't right. Either take it or leave it, in my opinion.

That's what all the fundamentalist groups say, and yet none of their "only true Islam" is identical. Funny.

And then Saudi Arabia wonders why the Syrian refugees are steering clear of them and going the other way to Europe...

Would it be blasphemous to ask them to lighten up on their strict laws?

I just want to say, that this is Sharia law.

:reductive2:

Isn't Allah Merciful?  Why execute the kid? If talking bad about the government is so serious, wouldn't a lashing suffice to get the message across?

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
