Charlie Hebdo, is cartoon on a dead baby really satire?

Nothing has really changed. Same people who were always against refugees blamed his parents for his death and "being greedy".

Some others were like "oh so sad" then forgot about it next week.

And I wouldn't like my dead child's body to be drawn like that with "Promotion: Two children for the price of one" sign. 

It's not smart nor funny. And I'm tired of pretentious people who think you're dumb if you don't find it funny.

So because some people haven't got anything but hot air between their ears, we should stop trying to be thought provoking? Everyone should stop protesting because a few people don't get it? We should stop pushing for rights for people because some people don't agree? Regardless, that picture has changed the views of many, including the general motion the media was treating the crisis. "Migrants" became refugees and people talked about these people.

They've already stated that the image of him lying on the beach is not how they remember him, but that is how the world will see it, because that's how we have to see it. The picture of him dead will remain in people's minds.

It's not meant to be funny, it's meant to be thought provoking and it is.

I think they're just like this. Always making people uncomfortable and shocking to sell magazines.

This caricature is not offending in my opinion.

Offending is the cruel reality, f. e. the current situation of hundreds of thousands of refugees and the inability and inhumanity of the European Union to finally try to solve this crisis together.

From my understanding, 

the cartoon is more to a political critic

than mocking the deaths of tragic events.

The line on McDonald's part giving me that exact idea of what it is.

That's like saying, A wish for better life with asylum claims many lives.

i guess it comes down to whether i care more about protecting the feelings of that father or delivering a message to  westerners to stop thinking their some sort of higher beings than the syrian refugees

i think people get the impression that if its drawn in cartoon form then its suppose to be funny. there's a reason no one is laughing per se about this, because i doubt charlie hebdo was trying to make anyone laugh. satire doesnt always mean you will take it lightly of a serious situation, or find it more humorous. if people aren't as outraged at the real thing, hearing it on the news, seeing it on newspapers, then seeing it depicted in art will get their attention, and that's why this publication depicted a dead kid the way they did.

You maybe need to put it in perspective and in its proper context. This a French newspaper, it's going to use codes that French people react more too. When it comes to humor you know what is the way we have fun in France? We make jokes about each other, we like to tease and we use dark humor a lot, we aren't politically correct at all. Charlie Hebdo isn't the only magazine to do such things, they do it for everybody (politics, whoever you want) they literally push freedom of speech to its boundaries. They aren't here to be nice or make you feel comfortable, they are here almost to make you feel angry or pissed off. 

I didn't like their drawings of mohamed and such, because it felt a bit too islamophobic for me but that picture, i don't think so, i think it's there to tease French people who keep whining about the crisis (and please show it to me because all my friend are employed in one of the hardest industry to work in... ) the truth is that we love to complain and convince oursleves we are miserable and we will use refugees to justify our fears when it's disgusting and inhuman... That picture was unfortunately appropriate in the context because french media were the one to wonder "should we publish that picture of him dead" because he is a kid, while everyone else had done it already. It's liek we always need to talk about BS and never take proper action. Look at the politics of France when it comes to refugee if we don't do anything, it will go away"...sure it won't.
