Is it time for a first female James Bond?

If a woman can pull off the rugged/handsome/masculine etc aspect that the James Bond character requires better than anyone else, then sure. But I think putting a woman in the role for the sake of having a female James Bond is very token-y and would actually be pretty demeaning.

I'd rather there be a new major action franchise totally unrelated to Bond with a female lead that genuinely kicks ass. I don't see why there has to be a female counterpart to everything, they can kill it on their own.

Although I do like the way that Angelina Jolie turned down being a Bond girl and told the filmmakers she'd rather be Bond. I'd love to see her leading some kind of real action franchise.

Phoenix

No. That wouldn't be James Bond then.

Maybe create a different movie with the same theme where the main actor is female. Like Batman - catwoman or whatever.

River

It can't really work because the name is for male..

But a spin-off movie with a cool strong woman 008 or something would be amazing..

I wish one day they will do the female version of HP.. Harriette Potter:nick:

Why do women have to be reduced to spin offs? Wouldn't it be better if they led their own franchises/legacies instead of being a "version" of something traditionally male?

Bad Bromance

I don't think so, babe.  James Bond is supposed to be male and even though the woman to play bond would look like a man, it'd be kind of weird knowing it's a woman.  That's just my opinion, though.  Perhaps if they picked the right woman for the job we would all be surprised.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

No, It wouldn't make sense to the story in my opinion.

Picking actors based on their s-x/s-xuality/race rather than their suitability to the role and talent is a cheap gimmick and isn't achieving equality.
