Vladimir Putin’s official spokesperson said that “well known” militant groups were in its sights but did not name individual organisations. “These organisations (on the target list) are well-known and the targets are chosen in coordination with the armed forces of Syria,” Dmitry Peskov said.Iran has announced its support for Russia's strikes against "terrorist groups". According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry in Tehran, the "Islamic Republic of Iran considers military action by Russia against armed terrorist groups to be a step toward fighting terrorism and toward resolving the current crisis" in Syria. Some migrants are sleeping rough outdoors.Hamburg's law takes effect next week.In a separate development, prosecutors filed charges of inciting racial hatred against a co-founder of the anti-Islamic Pegida movement.The prosecutors in the eastern city of Dresden said they acted after Lutz Bachmann had on Facebook described asylum seekers "trash" and "animals".Pegida (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) members have staged a number of rallies in recent months, attracting tens of thousands of people.Meanwhile, a new survey by broadcaster ARD said 51% of people admitted the influx of migrants scared them. Russia is going in like crazy and blowing up all rebels in sight because Putin wants Assad in power.The U.S. and allies appear to be bombing less because we actually care about which rebels we hit. Solitaire 902 Posted October 13, 2015 Share Posted October 13, 2015 I'm assuming Russia's approach to the situation is to ensure that there is a stable government in place so that there won't be a power vacuum when Assad is (hopefully) taken down, and THEN they will take on ISIS, but it's also still just likely that Putin likes Assad's regime and his only interest is in showing ISIS Russia's defensive capabilities and to ensure that Assad remains in place.Honestly, the US and European allies should have taken care of this situation when the issues began over two years ago & because they didn't, ISIS arose, and for whatever reason the US and co STILL didn't do a whole lot to fix the situation. We should have been proactive and taken on ISIS the way Russia is taking on the rebels. (The whole situation is just a huuuge mess and I hope this doesn't end up ratcheting up into a second Cold war or even a 3rd World War that's centered around US vs Russia.. it'd be credulously bad). - Previously Sycothisis Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nations do what's best for them or their interests. Russia isn't doing this because they're so good and want to destroy ISIS... let's not be naive.
