Is Gaga sincere about her integrity? (Read or don't post pls)

When and where did she say that though?

In a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest. Actually I was wrong: it was Jimmy, chief of Interscope, who chose Applause. Gaga said she made a list of songs she wanted on the album and let Jimmy listen to it. Jimmy however wanted to hear all 40 tracks she had finished by then and Applause was the very last ( :rip: ) track and Jimmy loved it so much that he decided he wanted it to be a lead single and Gaga agreed (for no reason).

In saying that though, I kinda hope Gaga creates her own label where she can have more control or at least fund her music ventures independently. She has enough money to buy a studio or rent one out, she has friends that are producers and I'm sure she can find producers she likes to work with.

I'm not confident that will actually happen, and I'm sure a lot of fans here would hate it, but I think it would be awesome.

Definitely agree with this especially

And also with the rest of the post :applause: It's definitely the most realistic point of view, I think mixed with Gaga discovering her artistic rebellious spirit during ARTPOP where she discovered she actually could make a change (firing her manager and putting Interscope on blast multiple times were ballsy moves..) like @degenerate is saying throughout this thread

But..

What's not conflicting about: "I'd quit if I had to change myself" and "I can't decide the way my vocals sound on every one of my albums"? :flop: & the rest of the examples I mentioned?

I didn't say anything about ARTPOP, though it still is possible that the tracklist was not her decision (cue Troy choosing Applause as a lead single even though Gaga didn't even want it on the album to begin with).

I get your point & I'm not trying to gun for Gaga here, to be clear, but I'm just trying to discuss where the boundary could possibly be and why she accepted the label's restrictions for so long.

Consider this: You really wanna change the world for the better and suddenly you have a platform to get your thoughts out and actually change people's lives. Would you just step down from your position just because there are some things you don't like about it or would you put up a brave front, power through till the point you know nobody can just take away your platform and then speak about the things you are passionate about and raise awareness to the stuff that has been bothering you about it in the first place.

You're not actually serious with this particular vid, right? :rip:

I'm kinda horrified that she'd ever say "I need pop music to be famous" but if you really heard it.. I dunno, I'm imagining there must have been a context that would soften it :air:

I didn't nitpick :awkney: I chose one quote to represent something she's been saying since 2008 (and it's not just a random quote, it's a quote that is supposed to represent herself, to the core, as an artist - that's why it should receive more attention to her saying she has a dick or whatever).

And I didn't even criticize her for saying it (like I said in the OP: it's her fans I see most guilty) and the questions up for discussion I added definitely show that I wasn't interested in nitpicking and discussing that quote in particular, so shut the **** up and quit trying.

I'd definitely do the latter & I think that's what she's been doing post-ARTPOP breakdown  I'd never think in a million years that she'd call out Interscope and her manager the way she did.

Still, I don't think that necessarily closes the issue. I'd still be curious what would be enough to actually make her quit and if she's serious about not really caring about waving her success and money goodbye to go singing back in bars like she claimed twice in that same interview and later on in a magazine interview too if I'm correct.

"What do you think would change if her fanbase stopped supporting Interscope's way of suppressing her as an artist?"

which no one really talked about yet :proud:

This is a bit off topic but I honestly wish she could do what Taylor did in finding a small indie label and being their biggest act so you get more freedom and control.

That'd be awesome :flutter:

And she could do more to shine light on lesser known acts too, I guess, that's something she feels strong about. If she could help to make lesser known bands more successful that would actually be in the label's interest :legend:

I could see her managing/signing an underground metal band and wearing their merch everywhere

I think Gaga would flip a sh*t if her label requested her to rewrite a song she's really happy about because they "don't see a hit" like one of her contemporaries experienced 8 times in a row. Or if she'd had to sign a contract that would have been heavily restrictive on how she is supposed to present herself in public. Also that question about the fanbase not supporting Interscope is HIGHLY hypothetical :lmao: I don't wanna bother thinking about it because my wildest dreams (registered trademark) would get the best of me and I would end up hating her next albums albums because it didn't live up to the visions I had in my head, similar to when I first heard Born This Way.
