Kanye is a mess, but he is a musical genius and has an incredible discography. Everything he's done Pre-Yeezus is amazing so I can't even get mad. I just wish he wasn't so...extra these days. But the man deserves respect nonetheless.

Kanye's videos are masterpieces , if you actually pay attention to his artistry rather then the douchebag comments he makes / that are reciprocated and extensively highlighted in the media you will see that this award has been a long time coming.

 

Gaga still has a way to come for her videos. Lets not forget her most iconic video (according to the world) Bad Romance has been extensively awarded by MTV so lets not get too mad at the fact that kanye has been in the industry a lot longer then Gaga has.

One thing people need to do when it comes to Kanye is separate how you feel about his personality from his work. 

Regardless of how egotistical and delusional he is, this man has worked extremely hard and dedicated his life to his music and other endeavors. 

For a musician, he is incredible. When you hear a Kanye song or a song he's produced/written you know it's Kanye- he has a distinct sound, and there is also diversity between his albums. His albums cleverly represent the themes they're built upon, and like it or not he's one of our biggest musicians today.

Personally I don't know enough about his music videos, but I know enough about his work ethic and talent to say even if he needs to shut his mouth sometimes his art deserves this recognition.

I could be totally wrong, and I'm not super well-versed in Pop music video history, but it does seem that after Gaga started making great videos other people started picking up the pace. After Britney and the occasional Beyonce video, people didn't really get excited for MVs outside of the fanbases of the artist. Then Gaga came along and made the music video something important and exciting for the GP again.

Well erm no, not really. There has been plenty of amazing videos before GGaga and during her time. Nothing revolutional about her videography. She didnt really change that, youtube did. 

However, Im 100% sure that Gaga will get this award too in The future. She has AMAZING videos!

There totally were amazing videos before Gaga. :) It just seemed like there was a lull where they weren't considered to be as important until Gaga started putting out visually interesting videos with a storyline. I can't remember the last time even the GP got worked up over a video before Paparazzi, but that also could be because I wasn't paying attention to the pop world as much before Gaga.

You did bring up Youtube though, which I didn't think about. That makes more sense as a reason for why music videos became more relevant again.

It seems like this award is all about seniority but not them skipping on Eminem I mean he's a VMA legend. Except for Eminem I can see Rih getting it becore gagz due to Umbrella and Disturbia becoming a thing before Gagz arrived. Rih and Gagz should get it first before Kety and Taylor pr I'm calling it BS.
