Benji 20,113
let's be friends from now on then. Hidden Content I didn't realise we weren't? But yes! People take me too seriously on here, if I didn't like ARTPOP, TIHTY or anything else, I wouldn't even bother discussing it. I just like getting other's opinions and you gotta love a little debate! djBuffoon 12,120
That's my point though... it's about "a hardship that most others couldn't understand" ... then there's Brooklyn Nights which is about breaking up with someone? No no, boo. I can't speak for you, but I can only assume most people have been in points of distress, depression, sadness where we feel like no one could possibly relate. That's what makes it universal. Whispering 18,865
If TIHTY is direct, it's not easy to relate to. Not many people have been raped in comparison to just having a break up with someone. Bottom line is, TIHTY is about rape, it's pretty obvious it is. BN is about breaking up with someone... that's pretty easy to relate to in comparison. TIHTY can be both. It can be open to interpretation and apply to any situation that involves hardship, addiction, abuse, abandonment, etc. However, even if you know the song is about rape, you can still relate...even if you haven't been a victim yourself. A fourth of all college freshman will end up being victims and a third of all females have been a victim of some type of s-xual abuse. The other two thirds or three fourths have either been victims of attempts or are fearful of becoming a statistic. They all know people that have been victims and they know that the system is set up where the victim often gets blamed or nothing is done about the crime or abuse. This isn't just an issue that impacts the victims...all women and many men, are worried about this, because it can easily happen to them and it has happened to their friends and family members. This song is every bit as relatable as a song about leaving a lover, as it can be interpreted to cover all sorts of situations or if it is taken in the context of the documentary...all women (and many men) can relate. Benji 20,113
Got my whole fanclub quoting me now, this is turning into a party! No no, boo. I can't speak for you, but I can only assume most people have been in points of distress, depression, sadness where we feel like no one could possibly relate. That's what makes it universal. Of course a lot of people will go through hardships. Hell, breaking up with someone can fall under this category. I just believe breaking up with someone or missing a lover is just generally a more easy to relate to concept than feeling like your world is ending. TIHTY can be both. They're both very relatable songs with a bared soul. It sounded before as if you thought the song was exclusively about rape, so I had to chime in. My view is if heavy songs about feeling hurt to such an extent you feel like your world is ending is easy to relate to for lots of people, all of the time, wouldn't Taylor's discography sound a little different? No shade because you all know I love her but... Not necessarily. Taylor writes songs that are geared towards teens and young adults, relatable but not heavy lifting by any means. Who knows if she's even capable of going deeper at this point in her life? I feel like Gaga and Diane have certainly seen and lived more than her, more life experience to draw from. I'm sure if she sticks around for longer than a decade, she'll start going a little more deeper with her writing. I mean she'll surely feel the need to mix it up a little at some point in her career if she continues going down the pop route. Very true, I guess Katy Perry would have been a better example as she's actually older than Gaga, but I can't say I'm much of a fan of hers.

See above Not for people that have felt the fear of worrying about s-xual abuse...or physical abuse...or for people who have lost loved ones, struggled with physical or mental health issues, addiction, feeling different or like no one understands their pain, or been in situations they thought were hopeless. That applies to all women and the the majority of individuals in this world. It may not be something you personally relate to, but the majority of people can relate to being at a point that they feel that their world is ending...or they personally know of family and/or friends that have been in these types of situations.
