Idk I'm only 20 years old, so I wasn't really aware as I am now back then, but that's just my interpretation of everything. But all in all it's just a sad, sad world we live in.

Yeah people were definitely more private about it. Social media/internet has given people invisible bravery in the sense that people will say racist and homophobic comments so freely because they know they are safe behind their computers and cellphones. People take too much advantage of freedom of speech. To me freedom of speech should only be taken advantage to fight for causes and equality, not for evilness and hurting people's feelings. There's just so many ruthless people out there and it's just sad really. I don't know how you can have the heart to call someone ugly, call someone fat, say racist or homophobic comments and not feel bad.

I'm slowly losing faith in America. I mean every country has racist people but for some reason my country seems to be so vocal and upfront about it in a way where the citizens have no shame in hurting people's feelings...or even killing them. This may not be true but for some reason I felt like equality was kinda progressing during the 90s and 2000s and a lot of people got along and everyone was kinda together. Now it's like we're slowly going back to the way it was a few decades ago. I could be wrong but that's just how I see it. Don't get me wrong though, we have progressed in a way where gay marriage is now legal nation wide and interracial relationships aren't seen as "bizarre" but unfortunately that's not going to seal the bottle. Racist people are always going to be around but now days it feels like people are dangerously more obvious about it and it's kinda sad/scary because I wish humans would just see each other as one race which is the human race but sadly it wont ever happen. Every day I hear about a black person getting mistreated, I get so frustrated because although I'm not black, I feel bad that black people have to constantly worry about their lives all because of their skin color and stupid "stereptypes" that aren't even legit. I just don't understand why would you fire someone because of their skin color, why don't you want a black delivery guy? If you put a black guy and a white guy together obviously their skin colors are different but if you skin them alive, they look the same, we're all pink, yellow, white, and red inside. We're just sacks of flesh, fat, muscles and bones and we're not that much different physically. Black, white, latino, asian, whatever we're all primates and we should just see each other as humans but a lot of the human race have this communist mentality that the paler you are the more you are respected and it's bull**** because it should be the more sweetheart and loving person you are, the more you are respected. 

I know exactly how you feel. Like everyday I just feel like crying just because of the hatred some people have in this country no matter what color their skin is. My mom tries to tell me it's always been like this and I just turn a blind eye to it, but that isn't the case. I never seen blatant racism like this b4 these past few years. Now every other day there is something in the news linked to racism and it makes me wanna cry.

Well, this country's history is disgusting in every way imaginable. From slavery and racism, to worker exploitation under capitalism, to s-xism. wars, and xenophobia in a land of immigrants... the list is endless.

This is a great nation with lots of opportunities but its history is full of hatred. It was founded off it. It still continues now and we're just going along with the ride. It's less than before but it's still sad. 

Kind of going off topic but many in this country say you're Un-American for pointing out the BS that goes on and that's part of why we can't move on. You must expose the hatred and dispose of it. It's the only way to progress. People here are so slow in that because they get really conservative when it comes to making things right.

I agree, people are so much more blatant about it that it's become very worrying. I love my grandparents but it strongly bothers me how they're racist (both set of grandparents) and they tried to brainwash my parents into their foolish racist mentality but luckily my parents never bought into it and lived their own lives and taught me and my brother to never judge people by their looks and just judge them by their personality. I always said, I do not care if you're white, black, latino, asian etc, if you're a sweet person then you're my friend and that's that. I'm just mind blown by how many ignorant people are living on this planet.

There will always be racism even we know it's not acceptable. Publicly, privately or between friends there is a real hatred in some cases for whatever reason. Whenever social media gets a story it puts a spin on it or tries to make it sound worse than it is. Sometimes I think these stories are blown out of proportion maybe because I can't believe the story is true or it has been misconstrued.
