It didn't make the cut for ARTPOP, so we only have the live performances of it at the BTW Ball. But I think it might have been planned for release on the ARTPOP app/ARTPOP act II. So studio versions must be out there, but we'll probably never hear it.

I'm glad it didn't make the final cut of ARTPOP, it wouldn't have really fit the whole theme/concept of the album to begin with; it was more than likely one of the earlier tracks. But it's still a beautiful ballad, and I wish we had at least been given the studio version of it. Maybe someday. :teehee:

Lifeline (international crisis support service) criticized it and expressed concerns because of the lyrics. Several newspapers negatively labelled it as a "suicide song" and slammed her for making the title even more obvious and controversial by spelling it as "Die" instead of "Di" and clearly referencing her in the lyrics while denying it was actually about the princess Diana. I'm quite sure she wasn't interested in repeating that mini-controversy during an official release.

holy scheisse

its so beautiful and tragic and really encapsulated the beginning of her depression as she coped with having the world at her disposal and suddenly being thrown aside in the midst of her declining mainstream reign. i once heard a fanmade version thats got a heavy beat in it and i loved it. couldve been a real cool song if it were done in a studio. one of her few songs that feels like it has true emotion in it. ugh i could go on forever about it:sara:

I don't believe it was ever even recorded professionally. It's so different from the other songs on ARTPOP - maybe it was just an expression of her feelings at that time. But I think it's such a beautiful song and if she decided to release it, I would replace Dope with it

Gaga had said an uptempo version was recorded that she was deciding whether to add to ARTPOP but I guess it never made the cut. It's a bit morbid tbf
