Robinladen 1,527
If the Born This Way era was a flop then the Prism must be as well tbh, considering it was way more successfulKaty her ARTPOP era is upon us.
mariomania1234 11,368
this is a gaga forum so ofcourse we will talk about gaga more...This extends far and away from this site. ARTPOP's "underperformance" proves that.
loribb 338
only flop era actually was from DWUW release date until announcement of C2C.
barcodemonster 3,525
You could definitely sense a shift in the perception of Lady Gaga after the Alejandro video and even more so after the meat dress. Then the hype of Born This Way brought people back in a little and they were like "oh this is coo- *Judas is released and many people left her. Then TEOG, YAI, Lady is a Tramp, Thanksgiving special, MTN and people were starting to realize she had talent etc. then Gaga jumped off the diving board into oblivion until the fame launch. Then she came back many months later with ARTPOP and it kept her name out there for a few months. Then she quickly followed that up with C2C and all of the special performances. I think she's in a great place now scan my barcode
elijahfan 26,078
Right, people stop liking an artist as soon as it touches religion.Like A Prayer was such a flop.
yxi 4,999
She started to alienate the GP with the Alejandro video but it was only minor since there was a huge hype for BTW. The GP were still in love with her, and thirsty for new material. She then went even further with Judas, the Madonna controversy, the amateurish Edge of Glory video, You & I being released WW while being a local country rock song (completely killed the era in europe), and by the time she released MTN everyone was over her with Adele taking over, then the huge blackout... ARTPOP most likely suffered from the BTW era, it would've been a huge success if released after TFM.Anyway she has yet to release a flop album. ARTPOP underperformed but it cannot be considered a flop. Miley was the it girl at the time and she sold as much with huge hit singles and controversial music videos. Benji 20,113
Alejandro was a pretty big hit in some places though, I thought? I think it's hard to pinpoint the shift because I don't think a real shift happened until the start of the ARTPOP era. I mean sure, single sells got a little whack in the BTW era but she still filled stadiums and shifted major numbers of the album so I don't think it was felt until ARTPOP. I mean she stepped up to stadiums for the BTW Ball but stepped back down to arenas for the artRAVE? It's hard to say really.
sipthistea 21,099
Are you seriously calling BORN THIS WAY a FLOP? That album IS FANTASTIC. I had never listened to an album like that one, and I guess I wasn't expecting music like this from Gaga. So musically, it is not a FLOP. Commercially... Born This Way Album: #1 in Billboard 200 - Singles in Billboard Hot 100 - BTW: #1 Judas: # 10 (Do you think every artist gets to top 10?) TEOG: # 3 Yoü & I: # 6 MTN: # 29 This is not a flop either, GUY may be a "flop" What were you expecting? Every single to be a #1? I don't understand some people in this fanbase wanting Gaga to be #1 at everything. It becomes kind of boring when that happens. Let other artists shine as she did from 2009-2011. With ARTPOP, I think she did good taking into account that it is not her best work. But it's a good album tho. I guess she has learned (As she herself said) that being a BIGGER artist is NOT the same as being a BETTER artist.
KindaTrashy 163
Alejandro was a masterpiece. End of.
MonsterForLife 407
They still play Alejandro on the radio here, it was the biggest hit after Bad romance
yxi 4,999
I still don't get why she didn't release Monster after Alejandro, there was still room to milk that album and it would've been a huge success.
Kulture Kiari 3,433
Imo, yes. After Alejandro, her career went downhill. This is how I see it. When Alejandro music video came out, the gp quickly compared her dance move (where she is dangling her arms and soldiers coming from behind her) to Madonna. And what solified the gps opinion on Gaga being a wannabe Madonna was that her next release, was Born This Way, a, according to public, a knockoff version of Madonna. Which is sad, because till this day, I dont hear it. Religion in Alejandro was the next thing. Some people hated it (my mother, a Catholic who rarely goes to church, said how that was rude og Gagz to disrespect religion; she was not happy.) And other people liked it (My grandmother, who never misses church, saw Gaga eating the rosary and started laughing, saying "Ilove that crazy b---h." So yeah
TEANUS 14,979
No, Judas really started the slight downfall. Had The Edge of Glory or Hair been released as the second single, either of them would've went #1 IMO. 1. Born This Way - February 20112. Hair/ The Edge of Glory - Early May 2011 (Yes, a couple weeks later, Born This Way fell out of the top 10 the week Judas was released)3. Scheibe - August 2011 (VMAs)4. You and I (US)/ Marry The Night) (WW) - November 20115. Hair/ The Edge of Glory - Late January 20126. Heavy Metal Lover - Early April 2012 British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
Jenniferella 2,774
Alejandro was very popular, at least in my country. To me, things began to fall down with Born This Way, Judas being the final hit "I have been writing LG5 since I was 13"
Gaga Medicine 265
In my opinion, Judas did it. What makes me sad the most about it is that Judas is such an unnecessary song on her discography. It is very similar to her signature song and iconic Bad Romance which makes it reductive and try hard to get another hit, specially when she released it after the Born This Way comparisons with Express Yourself. Besides, it is clearly worse than Bad Romance, thoug it is better than Born This Way. But she didn't need Judas after the BTW/EY situation, she had The Edge of Glory and Marry the Night that are even better than Judas and BTW.I do think that Born This Way because of its LGBT theme may have switched many people off, but it is harmless compared to blasphemy sh*t.
