Emvee 8,408
I feel like it's the other way around. I don't see pop culture being influenced by Taylor Swift. I see Taylor Swift being influenced by pop culture. It only looks like those girls are dressing like Taylor because Taylor is dressing like the girls on tumblr. Anyway, blah blah blah she sells millions. Move on and talk to me when her music actually affects the direction of pop music. Then again, Madonna was a trend follower too, so... Whatever lol

Whatever lol No, she was not.Erotica is the riskiest pop album ever released.ROL was the first attempt to bring EDM to the mainstream (and it did).Music was one of the very fewest Electronic dance albums of its year.Vogue brought House music back after a decade of its commercial death.I can continue, but I think I've established my point. TiphEret 1,320
Maybe she sells a lot but comparing her to Madonna is a far stretch. First her success is massive in the US but in Europe I have not met one single fan, while I met a lot of Lady Gaga fan and Madonna is still considered an icon even if now she isn't as creative IMO as in the past. I don't find her music so iconic and I don't even find it that good overall. While Madonna had so many amazing songs that even now are still relevant, like you could listen to them still today and it wouldnt sound esp outdated. That's what is being iconic it's when you art can survive through time and well good luck to Taylor with that but her music is very plain to me Sur le sable sur la neige, Sur les images dorées,Sur le front de mes amis, J’écris ton nom
Bradley 59,105
Lady Gaga is definitely not the Madonna of our generation, let Taylor Swift be it.Lady Gaga will be the Michael Jackson of our generation.
Guest
Everyone was calling Gaga the new Madonna when she was selling 10+ million copies of her album, but now a few years later they are looking for someone new. It's always the same old trick with the media; they write what brings them the most readers.

jojuun 4,159
If Taylor can keep it up, maybe.I think Beyoncé is the only one who comes close to Madonna's level of impact and success. Both are tireless performers too.

insight 2,435
weren't Paula Abdul, Debbie Gibson, Taylor Dayne, Jody Watley, Britney, Xtina, Shakira, JLo, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga once ALL hailed as the new Madonna of their generation? This, having an article comparing you to Madonna is basically a rite of passage for any moderately successful female pop star For what it's worth, Heraldsun could be as respected as the dailymail or an Angela Cheng article What is interesting is how some people who bash Madonna regularly are now indirectly recognising her as the benchmark for so many things in pop music

She has a better fashion sense than Michael Jackson. She's a fashion icon, she's more diverse in pulling different looks and themes. She creates fictional eras for herself and has created multi-personalities in herself. She's an artist. She doesn't sing like Michael, but that doesn't mean she's not a great singer. Ever heard of Cheek to Cheek? Michael and Gaga are not exactly the same artists but Gaga has contributed substantially to the music industry and can be regarded as an artist who has some real talent and is not here to fck around. They both had/have enormous impact in the music world.
