I keep hearing about this, but I don't quite understand climate change. I know each summer it seems to get hotter, each winter seems to get colder, and the seasons/weather gets really screwy. Is that from the warming or the Ozone layer depletion?

I don't think that really matters though. I live in Michigan and mainly in 2000s and before, winters were HORRIBLE and the summers were still very hot. Then for a while the winters weren't really much and it was a little warm and the summer was still the same, pretty hot. Then these past two years the winters were REALLY bad again and well the summers haven't changed.  So I think things change at random for weather in certain places. But they also say the reason why the past two winters were bad was because some wind current changed that usually goes through Canada.

Climate change was invented some old ass scientist who hates Republicans and wants to live in the Bahama's where the weather is nice all year round.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I'm always skeptical whenever anyone says science has political leanings, and since that's the same party that believes that Jesus walked with Dinosaurs, is against the teaching of evolution and vaccinations, has a leader that thinks it's fun to pollute heavily, proudly believes that the earth is 2,500 years old, can't understand how "the pill" works, and have a habit of making EVERYTHING political, I'm not listening to anything they have to say on scientific topics. I've heard them say "conspiracy" too much when it comes to science, I just laugh and walk away.

All the scientific information that I have read about leads me to believe that climate change is natural, has occurred and will continue to occur.  Human activities, namely CO2 and methane emissions add to the system that traps heat.  Climatology is still a relatively new study and a lot of early assumptions have been proven inaccurate. We are still learning actually.  

It makes sense to reduce or stop polluting the environment. Reduction and eventual elimination of detrimental environmental activities is the only way to perpetuate the planet as a whole.  

The debate is how much and when really.   Simply eliminating oil production and consumption is impossible and probably would do far more damage than good.  The doomsday theory that the earth climate is heading for a catastrophe because of humans using oil is pure politics imo and makes me sick to see people who actually believe that propaganda.

What do you think about people trying to find alternative energy sources to oil? Do you think there are any good leads? I agree with you that oil production is extremely vital to our needs right now, but do you think there is a viable alternative in the future?

Ozone depleation is a seperate problem...

 

greenhouse gases which contribute to warming have little or no impact on Ozone... The chemicals that damage the Ozone have little impact on global temperatures

 

Ozone depleation means more harmful solar radiation gets through but doesnt affect temperatures much

What do you think about people trying to find alternative energy sources to oil? Do you think there are any good leads? I agree with you that oil production is extremely vital to our needs right now, but do you think there is a viable alternative in the future?

Wasn't there some movie made years back that showed exaggerated effects of climate change? Some big Hollywood movie that had weather and animals attacking people? 

Hollywood is entertainment pure and simple ... they might add real or realistic scenarios in their productions, but unless its a documentary, they make movies to get people to buy tickets, pure and simple. 

Alternative energy is the way we are gonna 'save the planet'  renewable ways to produce electricity and eventually transportation will be a necessity as oil runs out. There is a finite amount of oil, and keeping it for irreplaceable undoable alternatives makes the most sense. Crude oil has so many uses right now that taking it out of fuel production one day might be a necessity. 

Polluting the atmosphere is never a good idea.  What is actual pollution and causing climate change remains to be proven imo.  CO2 from natural sources, like wild fires, volcanoes, and animals ect. will continue no matter what humans do.  How much humans can release with or with out causing huge climate shifts is still under study.  There are ways to remove CO2 or even use it beneficially so the balance to the equation here is pretty complex..if not beyond current technology to estimate accurately.

I think with the way things are going, it seems electrical and solar power has shown some promise, but likely not until the very distant future.
