brizoda 3,857
Does loving Rap make you a thug or less of a white person? Does loving Country make you a redneck?Seems all music carries stereotypes. Most of what is considered "gay music" is also popular with girls, and I think some macho boys have a problem identifying with a women as their hero or idol. Because s-xism.the same could be said about gay men only identifying with a woman as their idol

ItsTommyBitch 12,640
I don't think the problem is about homos-xuality and gay people but about who you are. I mean if you're straight then you're straight, it can be annoying to be called gay. It's like if you say to a Canadian : "Oh you're an American" ... no he's a Canadian, that's all. It's exactly like a trans who want to be called a female : if you call her a male then she's pissed off. Thus, the issue is not to be called a gay but is to not be considered for who you truly are regardless of how you act or the music you listen. It can even be considered as bullying when @Ladey Gagz calls you gay I considered that I may get this reply when I posted it tbh I think there is a marked difference in reactions when someone is simply mistaken about your identity vs when you have an internalized negative view about said group of people, even sometimes masquerading itself as "acceptance" (for example, "Gays are fine to me, but I would NEVER want to live a life as degrading as that"...or something like that that is still rooted in subtle homophobia ) Negative or common misconceptions about homos-xuality are just as likely culprits in explaining the way people react to things Lets say a person is accidentally called the wrong race... a Japanese woman is mistaken for being Korean...the reaction is probably somewhere along the lines of... "Oh, im actually Japanese, Not Korean" not "Whoa whoa whoa, I'm not Korean... don't get me wrong, Korean people are great, but I'm not one of them" In reality, It's literally as simple as clarifying that you aren't gay, or you aren't whatever mistaken identity tbh, yet people still react very defensively with things like this because there is often a vague sense of "Not only am I not this, but This thing is bad and I don't want to be associated with it" -- which gives birth to sayings like "no homo" or "I'm not gay, BUT..." I have this argument with straight men very often and the further the conversation goes, some people are just genuinely like "Well, im literally not gay" and others begin yelling over you about "they aren't a bloody f@ggot" and how "they don't like it up the butt" and what not In summary, I recognize both exist, but that's kind of the point. People reacting adversely because of negative internalized views about homos-xuality aren't a small minority, and I don't think a simply "mistaken identity" is something that gets the average person fiercely passionate to the point that they feel the need to distance themselves from other labels. If anything, I would think that a person who is secure in their identity would not feel the need to dismiss or assign negative labels to other identities, but recognize them as equally-as valid; just not the one that fits themselves. Plenty of celebrities who are called gay their entire careers DO indeed make this distinction. Some react with "Whoa, I don't swing that way" and others react with "Well, there's nothing wrong with being gay, but I'm not" -- a nod to the question looming in the backgrounds. God, I ramble so much *Edit* I also want to add that the reason its considered an act of bullying again lends itself to the belief that its a bad thing to be Conservatives and Liberals shout things out to each other like "BLOODY LIBERAL!" and "BLEEDING-HEART CONSERVATIVE!" not to simply mis-label people, (because they are accurate in these cases ) but because this says that to a conservative, a Liberal is a BAD thing, and vice versa. Straight men calling other men "gay" is an assault on both their alleged masculinity ( ) and their orientation.. being called gay will get you made fun of, beaten up, and ostracized by your peers through basically all age groups because they see it as a bad thing . Neutral concepts only become offensive when they are hurled at people from people who do assume they are negative. Before I came out, People called me gay. I sometimes denied it, but I never said "ew, I'm not gay" or "im no homo/fag" or whatever because I didn't ever want to tell myself that being gay was bad, just that I needed to fit in with people 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
Riot Poof 2,236
Im pretty confused With all these things you brought up to me. You see i dont think im a little monster anymore (its more clear to me now) but just a plain o fan. I like gaga because she stands up to her visions not considering if it will be praised or not. I dont care about what she wears or what her gimmicks are. I just like/love Gaga and her music. And if loving her makes me gay then ill probably stick to eminem. Many people on here have told you that music taste doesn't affect s-xual orientation or masculinity and you continue to doubt your status as a fan. It's not that hard to understand. It's not that big of a deal. Don't be so insecure about it. You don't even have to tell people you listen to Lady Gaga if that makes you feel better. Also, I'm a gay Lady Gaga stan, and I really only care about her and her music as well. Don't let some stans on here make you think that you gotta know what douche she uses in order to be a "true fan." IN ADDITION, @ Eminem being the musician that would validate your heteros-xuality/masculinity. No wonder heteros-xual masculinity can be violent and dangerous... I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.
Riot Poof 2,236
I wish straight men would deny being gay SOLELY because it's inaccurate, not because the status of being gay is negative. It's honestly ridiculous that some people would hesitate to listen to Lady Gaga because they're so overprotective of their identity and how people perceive them. How some people can scrutinize every aspect of their lives in order to be the straightest macho man on Earth is beyond me. I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand. No wonder heteros-xual masculinity can be violent and dangerous... I know that liking Eminem is not the sole cause of this side of masculinity, but he does "symbolically" (:miley:) advocate or describe beating women and being violently homophobic and so many people come out an say "Eminem's music is so relatable to me" or "Eminem is the best rapper, look @ those verses!" im just left with a ":wtf:" face mixed with ":saladga:" 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
craig 680
Back in the 80's straight people didn't have any idea that gays had a particular love for glamorous female pop stars. It's counter-intuitive! Being gay is about attraction to men, pop stars are hot females, so liking them could be a sign of red-blooded heteros-xuality.Guys at school might tease you about liking girly music if you admitted to Madonna fandom, but your parents wouldn't worry about your orientation. There's so much more stigma towards the latter. ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Lmao don't even try and compare being called Canadian when you're American to being called Gay when you're Straight. There's so much more stigma towards the latter. The issue IS being called gay, otherwise there wouldn't even be this thread I'm quoting you because I don't want to quote Florian again tbh, but now that I've seen you quote his message, I also want to point out that the trans example is a bit trivializing Sorry to beat this dead horse, but... Misgendering a person is a form of violence and is not simply chalked up as "oh well they got it wrong, so I was slightly irritated!" - in cases of trans people, their friends family and really entire environment tend to actively DENY their identity, not simply mistake it. Calling Caitlyn "Bruce" is not offensive just because you've gotten it wrong on a technical level but because you believe your idea of what Caitlyn's name and gender SHOULD BE supersedes another individuals right to self expression and basic respect as a human being (Unless you are just generally confused and don't know what to call them ) For example, how Drake Bell acted by saying "yeah, im still calling you Bruce" is distinguished from the scenario I just proposed where someone is just in the dark and curious ) Really I don't think these can be compared. I don't think we should assume people are so kind that they aren't capable of well-hidden ill-intent in mislabeling a person or using a label as an insult either 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
