I don't hear any of Gaga's songs on the radio here in my country. They always play relatable teen music like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

People saying EDM is not ~cool anymore~ for the radio to play seem to ignore the generic electronic songs that smashed like Burn, Stay the Night and Break Free etc. And this year you don't have to look any further than Lean On's global domination. In recent years EDM festivals have become popular and DJs actually have fan followings. So it's clearly not why AP wasn't well received, and is such a bs and tired reason that GGD and ATRL automatically go to when discussing the album and Gaga in general.

Related story: @Nick informed me a couple years ago of our radio station's shadiness towards Gaga and it's clear why they don't play her.

Gaga songs used to get played during her first two albums by the Twin Cities, MN 101.3 KDWB because the current person in charge of the playlist was fair, actually played the Top 40, and didn't have a chip on her shoulder about Gaga. They even had a Gaga interview during her Fame era, I believe.

Then a new girl started and things changed.

During Gaga's Born This Way era, there were only TWO "Top 10" songs that got played, literally, TWO times or LESS (Nick's a super nerd who watches these things, love him) and one of them was...A Gaga song.

I believe there were even BTW songs that other hit stations played frequently that KDWB couldn't be bothered with.

When it came time for her concerts, they gave her NO promo. They played like a pre-recorded thing whenever they literally HAD to, and any time Gaga came up in conversation they either moved on quickly or bashed her.

It might also be worth mentioning that this new girl is a HUGE Katy fan. She went to all of her shows, would bring her up in conversation, played her Top 40 hits to death, always spoke positive about her, shared her news on the show, and while she refused to play Gaga songs that made it into the Top 10, she would play lesser known Katy songs. Shady as ****.

And it's sad because during TFM Saint Paul was a city that had to have TWO Monster Ball shows in our arena that sits ~20,000 if I'm not mistaken. Saint Paul was where she sang "Living on the Radio," it's where she received Gaga Daily's fan projects. And that's the city that ended up shading her. ****ing disgusting.

Ugh, that's so frustrating to hear. I'm always surprised when I hear about bias when it comes to stuff like this, but I really shouldn't be, I bet stuff this goes on all the time.

Where I live, radio stopped caring about her after her hip injury blackout. My local station, WHUD 100.7 FM, played her new music all the time in 2011, but then they acted like she didn't exist anymore when she was "back" with Applause except for occasionally playing Paparazzi. Whenever I requested it (and called them out on their obvious bias against her), they would rudely respond "WE DON'T HAVE IT!". I have since boycotted them, but I will give them another chance when the LG5 single is release and I will keep pestering them about it if they don't play it. :fthis: 95.5 WPLJ was almost the same, only they actually did play Applause occasionally, but they also play a Katy Perry song literally every 30 minutes to this day and nowadays when it comes to Gaga, they usually play Poker Face or The Edge of Glory.

Look at this radio station in Columbus, Ohio. They have no Gaga songs AT ALL but they have nearly every other hit from 2013 and like 7 Demi Lovato songs... http://www.wnci.com/pages/info/wnci_requests.html

I blame the fact that Applause ended up being released in an overcrowding of hits (Roar, Blurred Lines, Wake Me Up, Wrecking Ball, Royals, Get Lucky, I Need Your Love, Cups, Cruise, Counting Stars, Safe and Sound). It only peaked at #24 on the Adult Contemporary chart (while Roar spent several weeks at #1) and DWUW and GUY didn't chart at all. I'm really worried about the timing of her next new song. If Katy overshadows her again... :ohno:

Imo G.U.Y is not that good. The verses and the bridge are pretty good. But the chorus is just repetitive and dumb tbh

The chorus was meant to be catchy and I didn't find it repetitively boring.

Radios refused to play G.U.Y. because it was EDM? What kind of a bullshyt reason is this? Radio stations said this themselves? I need source.

well our countres always support big popstars. I think even Judas was #1 here.

Ghosttown & Living For Love were Top10 :emma:

I laughed when I saw this. :emma: i like Madonna though I just found it funny

Its not radio's fault that Gaga has not delivered a decent pop song since 2011( beides DWUW).

Applause exists. G.U.Y. deserved to be played, I say it's bullshyt that it was refused to be played because it was EDM. Calvin Harris was there every day and I think as long as a song sounds good, it will still be played regardless of what the genre is, and G.U.Y. is a good song to me. Lack of promotion was the only problem not the genre it self. it was #1 every night in a top 30 countdown in my country.

Nah, I don't think it's more of a bias towards EDM, but a bias towards Gaga. A lot of people thought she was "over" just because she hasn't been as popular as she was in 2010-11.

I just think she got less radio plays in the ARTPOP era because everyone was so tired of her. Do What U Want is an amazing pop song and deserved to go #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 but it did only moderately well here in the US (for Gaga standards that is). I just assume it's because people were tired of her at the time. Also, Gaga wasn't fully into it after Troy left her. In the end, charts and all that don't make or break an era for me, but it is nice to see Gaga slaying.
