While I did suspect that he was gay, it's good that he's come out.

I feel like I need to say, I found that video and his thoughts very interesting because I feel quite similar. I never feel 100% either gay or straight. Not even in the middle, really. I feel like I swing back and forth somewhere. It's strange, and it's confusing, and a lot of the time it feels like people don't understand it because it's so complicated. And it makes me feel uncertain of my own feelings. It's hard not really knowing what you are.

So I have to commend Shane for making this video and putting himself out there like that, because it's not something that the majority understand. To most people, you're either gay or you're not. Even in this thread there are people who "don't buy it." Hopefully through making this video, some more people will begin to understand that s-xuality isn't always so neatly cut.

Wow everyone for six pages is making the same joke how absolutely funny. :excuseu:

Seriously though just because you "knew" or thought it was "obvious" doesn't mean he did. s-xuality can be confusing and hard to understand I'd think here of all places people would be sympathetic.

Some of you jumping on the "don't be rude" train need a reality check. This is SHANE DAWSON.

This is the guy that has built 50% of his comedy-career on his "I am not gay but really feminine" shtick. His girlfriend Lisa even made an entire parody video about him not being gay last year, while he was in a pink tutu behind her. You can buy the song on iTunes. When that YouTube girl Ingrid came out and that Joey guy, I had no issue with it what so ever, because they never talked about their s-xuality. Or at least it wasn't a commercial aspect of their career. Shane's entire "thing" was based on it at one point. I don't have an issue with the fact he's bis-xual, I truly believe he is and bis-xuality is real. Not just "the busstop before Gay Town." My issue with him is the fact he flat out denied it for years but gained financial succes from it every time he'd make an "ironic" gay parody. I get that he felt pressure, I get that he was struggling internally. I just don't see how it is okay to mock it constantly in video's, but being it on the inside.

His girlfriend by the way seems to have found out via YouTube as well, see the tweet below. There go her 1.99$ on iTunes with her "funny and clever" lyrics about "everyone says my boyfriend is so gay."

I must've skipped over that part of the video. Whoops.

I still think it's too little, too late. I feel like he mocked it for so many years and if that was his way of dealing with it, I could bring up a little sympathy for it but the fact remains both him and his girlfriend have made money out of mocking "the gay thing". He's wrong for that one in my book.

However, props for coming out publicly.

Wow obviously you did not even watch to the video he said she was the first he talked it about with and they broke up 6 months ago , what are you even on about?

He build his career on not being gay ? He build his career on being weird, feminine and having a weird , dark and insulting humor. He makes fun of everyone including the LGBT community and himself because he , and his fans think it's funny.

Can I get a mod here? Some of the comments are disgusting.

The made money of the gay thing??? :saladga:

If he had cancer and he made a video telling everyone he didn't have cancer would he make money of his cancer????????

He is religious and he felt he was sick. If you're not even going to watch the video don't even comment.

You don't get the feeling that the jokes he made and persona he adopted may have been him projecting? I believe it's fairly common for people in the closet to do that sort of thing. Yes, it might have been a vital aspect of his career, but that doesn't really change anything imo. It seems quite clear to me that he felt pretty ashamed, and turned the pain and gossip over his flamboyancy into something of a joke or caricature as a way of coping.

Yes, I know other closeted youtube personalities avoided speaking about their s-xuality altogether, while Shane has repeatedly claimed that he is straight and made fun of the idea of him being gay. You might see that as exploitation, but to me that really just shows how far he suppressed himself. I have to feel sympathy for that.
