Why do fans think Gaga's acting in MTN is bad?

A bit melodramatic and larger-than-life, but then again, it's a Gaga video. For me, it felt totally truthful. And this was when she was basically directing herself. Her natural skill matched with a good director could easily result in a magnificent performance.

I agree I don't think the acting is bad. The scenes in the dancing studio bothered me back then because the video starts awesome in that car, she looks awesome etc. and then the dancing scenes...they always bored me somehow.

I feel like it is some of the best acting ever done in a music video. I felt like it was actually part of an Oscar award winning film.

Its much better than telephone that's for sure. (I think that that was purposely supposed to look bad tho)

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

The scene where she's laying in the bed and she suddenly starts to cry is probably meant to look very ''messy''. It's not like a person at the rehab/whatever is very stable mentally, so their moods might change very fast etc. I think she handled it well and she'd know herself if the scene went wrong - she definetely would've filmed it again

I don't think it's bad...it's just ok. Most ppl read somewhere it was bad and just repeat that, but if you confront them about it they won't even know how to explain their "own opinion"...and what's a good actor or not, it's so subjective...

Anyway, about Marry the Night, the acting is just fine, the writing is the problem, imo.

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Idk :toofunny:

I think it was more-like because of the scenes (the awkward ones :v) and not her acting

I think it's the goal of the video though ;) It's meant to be funny... I know a lot people don't understand this video because Gaga always makes serious videos..

Actually I loved Telephone because she's serious (by killing people) in a non-serious way !

yeah this exactly. Like if you see gagas acting and then compare it to beyonces acting, it's a similar style throughout the video. It's meant to be surreal and quirky.

OT: I love marry the night! The first time the world (who didn't go to the shows) saw vulnerability from her. Aced it!

Marry the night is actually my favorite video of hers. I think her acting can be sensed as over the top by some because of how disturbing or unsettling feelings one might have to someone being overly emotional (and we must keep in mind the backdrop of that scene is in some sort of medical mental facility).

I also remember watching an interview where Gaga mentions the video is based on some of the darkest days in her life, so her portrayal of that time is seen through her acting. Sure it's acting but the emotions are stemming from a real place, or a previous experience; Creative expression is fueled by an artist's reality, which is often disguised beneathe the melodrama.

The video to me is empowering, the raw quality of it intrigues me. It is stripped bare and we can see Gaga at her worst... And then her absolute best like the Phoenix.

Bad Bromance

Marry The Night is my favorite video and song!  Gaga's acting in MTN video was amazing!  Her acting was so raw, which made the biographical aspect of the video feel so real.  I was able to feel Gaga's anguish in the scene at the clinic and that scene alone slayed me so much.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

For me the acting was bad because it did not seem realistic.

But it did match the scene... there was a sort of disconnection between her and the nurse and also the bed was in the middle of a large room, not a real hospital so that felt disconnected too.

So maybe the acting was purposely done with a melodramatic and disconnected feeling.

I am sure she did it the way she wanted it done.

If anything, it was just badly written.  The dramatic pause didn't help much either.  Gaga did direct... That doesn't mean her acting is bad, but there's are multiple elements that go into making actors look good in scenes.

The only problem I have with that part is the scene and the direction. She was trying to pull something over the top where she is still trying to be fabulous in spite of what happened to her. + the shots were :hunty:

Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want be abused.

Okay but how can the "acting" be bad, if she's playing herself?? :sharon:

She not playing a different person, she's just acting with feelings she obviously has experienced in her life.
