He saw her at roseland too. I've never taken his comments as negative re her music. he lives for jazz and standards but hes talked a lot about gaga creativity  and intelligence with her music

it's his age i guess

I don't like his previous statements which suggested that Gaga's music is not of high quality. Sometimes he should think before he speaks.

and this

tony better watch his back or monster will come for him

I think pop music is not his thing at all...

But he respects her and her music and her fans. Like he said he has his own career, she has her own career but together they can gather their audience together.

He knows that they don't belong to the same world, but he respect this...

He just doesn't get the music industry these days and does not see her fight in it. It is not his game. Things are alot different now than in his time and he sees that it is senseless, when someone of such talent is given such a hard time.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I think when he talks about Gaga and her pop music, saying shes talented and doesn't understand why she makes that kind instead of jazz all around, he just means that people overlook her talent because pop can be seen as diluted and bullsh*t, whereas when she does jazz, they see it. Which is true, I mean I think we all know Gaga doesn't get the credit she deserves.

Tony clearly has a lot of admiration for Gaga as a jazz singer. But I noticed in a few interviews that he seems to put down her own music, saying she appeals to teeny boppers and not saying this directly but basically implying that he thinks she is wasting her time with pop music when she is so talented as a singer. I don't remember exactly what words he used but that was the vibe I got. Then at their shows he says, "they ask me why I always sing old songs. I say its because I like dont like the new ones". Kind of a slight jab at Gaga.

Do you agree?

Yes and no. I don't think Tony listens to a lot of pop, but probably has the same negative perception that a lot (not all) older generations do. It actually seems to be a pattern. I imagine a great many of us will speak ill of our grand children and great grand children's music!

While I do think he may be casting some shade on some of Gaga's older stuff, its more like he feels she can reach a higher level as a singer. He may not feel that pop music (which can be very diverse) is a good place to show off her vocals and charisma. Now, Gaga has managed to do that all throughout her career, but he probably hasn't paid that much attention to her previous work. Since I doubt very much that Gaga plans to leave pop music/never return I'm sure she will have the opportunity to prove him wrong. I honestly feel there is a genre of pop (or at least a pop artist) for just about everyone.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Did he really lie though? Just because even adults can relate to her music doesn't mean that particular sound isn't aimed at "teenyboppers" so they can get their parents to spend their coins on. We may not like it but Gaga's music appeals to the same people who buy other pop and dance music, Gaga's demographics just skews a bit older. There's no need to excuse Tony for his age because what said is ultimately true. In my opinion, anyway.

I've never got that impression from any of his interviews. He obviously is more loving of Jazz than Pop - but he's never put down Gaga's music.

He definitely does. It's very jarring when you hear it in their interviews. 'She wasn't making good music until now'. Even if you don't like someone's genre, if you respect them and the genre they love, you'd talk with tact. :deadbanana:

Are people seriously getting butthurt over an old man not liking Gaga's teeny bopper music?

To be fair born this way and ARTPOP are albums that are made for teenagers. She hasn't really released music that appeals to adults since the fame monster.
